Sojust last week we had our 3rd Philly Steem meetup and overall it was another successful event. This one had a lower attendance than the first two, but probably had the best vibe over all so far.
I attribute that at least in part to the chill musical sounds provided by my good friend and ally @djcarlitoz.
It was also more structured than the first event and less structured and informational than our second one. Not to lower the value of either of our first two events, because they were both great in other ways.
However our primary goal is to make these meet ups a warm, relaxed environment where people can easily make connections, where conversations can flow freely, and valuable information can be shared without any pretension or serious egos involved. And in this regard I think this our third event really hit the nail on the head.
I'll try to keep this post short and let the pictures tell most of the story. A few of us got there early to set up the DJ system, sign in sheet, etc. It's always a good thing to have more than one person present at the beginning. We had the tunes going and then people just started showing up, mingling and having a good time. :)
It was a really nice mix of people both those who attended before and those coming for the first time, with smooth friendly conversations all around.
People were having such a good time hanging out chatting about Steem and everything else that it got late and some people were already leaving before we discussed the planned topics!
So we turned on the projector in order to make sure we had some kind of information rich segment of the event.
I talked very loosely about Steem as a social currency economy. I quickly realized from the blank reactions I need to refine my talking points and / or speaking style. :D But I only spoke for a few minutes anyway.
So Matt delivered the goods mainly by continuing his conversational threads from the evening in front of the room and talking about how the voting mechanics work, the importance of leaving good comments, as well as bots and voting explained more in-depth. These topics never get old.
Then we did look at a few posts and authors to discuss why they worked well.
This was one of the focal points in our program, but when we got to it, there were a lot of absurd jokes and humor thrown in from various places including our friend @dhimmel whose laptop we were using and was also recording the video. I'm curious to see what the video will look like if he posts it any time soon. It may well make us look a little silly, but we were all having such a good time I don’t any one would really care.
@hypnopreneur The reply by @ayumanis is a PHISHING TRAP TO STEAL YOUR PERSONAL PASSWORDS. Can you delete it or flag it? I just read about this new phishing trap link from witness @arcange. EVERYONE PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THIS. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot buddy, I didn't click on it fortunately and might have done so absent-mindedly.
Appreciate you bringing it to my attention before that happened!

Awww I missed two more hours of fun. I tried to view @dhimmel’s video but it is not loading for me.
Thanks for sharing your views of the night. It’s cool to see the different perspectives and angels of the same events. You are on point about how inviting the ambiance was that night. It was more than I could have hope for my first meetup. I look forward to the next one and will try my best to bring new people. I am an advocate of the STEEM platform at my work place, but so far I only have one bite, my food friend @andykapps.
I am a little confused, is the tag ‘steemphilly’ or ‘steemphilly’? I used the later for my post and so did you, but the first is listed in your content.

I really appreciate that feedback and so glad you enjoyed yourself and connected to the people there the way you did. And hehe, yeah things tend to go pretty late. So plan accordingly for next time ;)
As for the tag, we haven't entirely come to a consensus as I prefer Steemitphilly and Matt and some others think Steem is better. On the one hand we have to get people more engaged in using Steemit to really take things up, so I like Steemitphilly. But it also makes sense to take a broader view about using Steemphilly because there's more to it than just this site.
To be fair and show respect where it's due, I'm going to relent and start using Steemphilly. So I chose that name for the aggregator account. And since not a ton of people are using the Steemitphilly hashtag yet anyway, it's not that big of a deal.
But I'm glad you asked, as now you have a heads up on that. And I'm going to start promoting the account and the hashtag to people outside the meetup group from Philly fairly soon. So maybe you can help me get the word out. :)
(Also a heads up we have crypto / blockchain meetup Tuesday the 27th at the same venue, same time. You're also welcome to attend. Steem is not the main focus, but I'm sure it will be part of the discussion.)

I learned a lot at the first two meet ups and look forward to the next one. Some friends have been asking about them too so hopefully +1 or 2 next time.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
