With massive support from the steemit community, steemit helping hands striked a partnership with omoge initiative an offline girls foundation in lagos, to execute our 1 week vocational charity project.
AIM
The aim of this project was to empower this teenage girls with skills and knowledge to create a carreer path for them prepare them for a brighter and independent future.
SKILLS AQUIRED
The aquired skills includes the following
- Shoe making
- Bag making
- catering
- photography
- graphics designing
- bleach making
- soap making
- toilet wash making
Do I hear someone saying saying how could all these be aquired in just 1 week??
well a huge thanjs to our facilitators they make this successful beyond our imaginations, as at the 3rd day we already had students making shoes and bags on their own, which for me i thought will be more complicated.
Highlights from each days
Day 1
The first day kicked off with with a massive attendance of over 100 girls from from the neighourhood, and the event kicked off prayers, then speach from our invited speaker mrs kofoworola, a young woman who passion for dance, while she was a teanager and always wanted to study theater arts but due to pressure from her parents she had to study accounting against her wish.
she didnt kill her passion she went after it even after graduating from accounting, her story was a source of motivation to enable the girls never give up on their passion and dreams. she was the ballet teacher for the girls during our training, and she teaches ballet in over 20 schools in lagos state.
Training for the day
The girls where splitted into 5 groups,
- The toilet wash making class,
- The making of cakes the culinary class,
The bag making class, the making of clutch purse
Photography, the basics of photography
- Graphic designing:
Day 2
The speech for the day was made by mrs Kelani Omolara she spoke on GODFIDENCE, the sole act of trusting in God, she encouraged the girls to hold on to God in all their endeavors and used her life as an illustration.

Graphics: the basics of core draw
Day 3
The speach of the day was by mrs Abimbola sholuade, she spoke on a very sensitive topic a topic that even most parents shy away from, she talk to the girls on ME AND MY BODY, she discussed with them about their body, its sensitivity,changes and menstrual hygeine.

Shoe and bag class: sandals
Photography: posting and photography practicals
- Graphics: logo, mouse and its importance
Day 4
Another day with another sensitive topic, it was quite an interactive session with mr Madu, BOYS,GIRLS AND SEX, SETTING YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT, yes that was the topic for the day well as expected the girls where quite shy in the begining, but he managed to get them out of thier shells and the questions kept on rolling in, seriously I never believed teenagers will be so open to discussions about sex with a man, but amazingly the goal was acheived.

- Photography: practical image capturing.
Day 5
Day 5 was dedicated solely for practicals and finishing of the works in preparation for our exhibition, to enable determine how much and how well they have learnt, especially the shoes and bag makers.

- catering class: doughnut making/ practicals
- graphics class: practicals on business card making.
- photography: practicals on image capturing.
Exibition
Finally it was time for merryment presentation and display of all the works, knowledge and effort made during the week, we had parents of the girls present, it was so much fun, games, sales and refreshment was the order of the day. It was indeed a success...
