Hey guys. Its @ubongj here again with the second update of my “promoting steemit” series. This started a week ago. Click here for the first post. Like I highlighted in that post, the purpose of these updates will be to show the ways by which I am supporting and promoting the steemit platform. So here goes my report for this week’s promo-steem post.
Well, this week has been quite a rough one for me. I school at the university of Uyo,Nigeria. In my fourth year studying chemical engineering and lately my lecturers have been really demanding. Bombarding us with notes and assignments and also notification of upcoming assessments (tests).
Notwithstanding these challenges, I have not relented in continuing to promote steemit whenever the opportunity arises. And speaking of opportunities…
I happened to be having a lecture on CHE414- “Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics” and while doing that, a thought popped into my head.
WHAT IF I TELL MY WHOLE CLASS ABOUT STEEMIT?
The idea was both frightening and exciting at the same time. Exciting because I could actually bring a number of these ones into steemit and frightening because I couldn’t fathom what their reaction would be. Would it be favorable or worse .I shrugged those negative thoughts off and informed our class representative that I would like to talk to the whole class after the lecture and dispense valuable information to them. She informed them after the class and I was given the floor.
I started by telling them that I had very important information to tell them. I then told about steemit. A girl hissed immediately I started explaining. I had expected that; thing is, a lot of them had had a ugly experiences with Ponzi schemes and the mention of online money making was foul to their ears. I helped them clear up this misconception about steemit. By telling them that :
1-STEEMIT WAS FREE
2-STEEMIT DOESN’T WORK ON A REFERAL BASED SYSTEM
So this made them understand that their registration on steemit.com wasn’t adding anything to my wallet. This put them at ease and they gave me their attention.
So, I told the how steemit worked. Helped them to understand that
Steemit is a social media platform where everyone gets paid for creating and curating content. It leverages a robust digital points system (Steem) for digital rewards.
I moved over to how posts are made, the setup, and categories of posts to write on. Some of them felt they had nothing to write on. They asked me what kind of posts could they write.I told the about the various categories of posts they could write , such as photography, fashion, creative writing, vlogging etc
Then the all too common question landed.
HOW MUCH HAVE YOU MADE ON STEEMIT?
It is a normal thing to ask that question because nobody would want to engage in something that will turn out to be futile or an utter waste of time.
My response is almost the same everytime. I tell them that I do not like to disclose how much I have made on steemit because it could ake them have very high expectations. The money becomes the main driving factor and when these expectations are not forthcoming, they get disappointed and give up. I make the know that although you can earn money on steemit, they shouldn’t see it as a get-rich-quick scheme. I then reiterated one of @tojukaka ‘s popular phrases I got from him during his visit to uyo.
COME FOR THE MONEY, STAY FOR THE COMMUNITY
If the cash isn’t forthcoming, still stay for the community. After helping them see it I n this light, I divulge how much I have made on steemit and they are awed.
Another question came in
HOW DO I GET MY MONEY?
Another regular, yet important question. A lot of them are not conversant with the cryptocurrency concept; so I start from scratch and explain it to them as briefly and simply as I can. Then I tell them about the steemit blockchain and how the platform is run on it. I then go on about the various cryptocurrencies on steemit : steem, steempower and steem dollar. Then I tell them the ways they can convert their currencies into cash
1-BY CONVERTING TO BITCOIN OR OTHER CRYPTOCURRENCIES AND SELLING
2-BY SELLING TO A STEEMIT USER WHO WANTS TO BUY(THIS IS THE COMMON METHOD EMPLOYED HERE)
After reeling on and on, some of them indicated interest in registering and I showed them how to go about it. I had told and registered a few others before talking to the whole class.
So here are the new guys who just got registered. Some of them have made their introductory posts while others have not.
@mbj, @kvng1, @lifeofdarlington, @messil, @oluwaalexbee, @newsource, @ay-cruz
These are the introductory posts of those who have done theirs.
@mbj introductory post
@kvng1 introductory post
@lifeofdarlington introductory post
@oluwaalexbee introductory post
@newssource introductory post
@ay-cruz introductory post
A lot of others have been registering since after the meetup but there has been hitches with respect to approval of new accounts. A lot of new guys who registered have complained about not receiving their confirmation emails yet. Hopefully this would be rectified and these ones would join the steemit ranks soon.
So there goes my second update for the "PROMOTING STEEMIT SERIES"
Doing my best to promote steemit whichever way I can.
I still remain @ubongj
Big shout outs to @starkerz @stephenkendal @ejemai @futurethinker @andywong31 @stach
