How to start a t-shirt printing business online

If you want to start out the t-shirt printing online store, it is better if you are well aware of the hurdles that you may face or you can be stuck. Even if the obstacles can look small, they will pop up after each time during an entire process starting from the designing up to the printing. When someone is not aware of the particulars which will be related to the t-shirts printing, they are set for failure.

Every designer will have his way of working while each print shop can also work using their own rules.  However, if you are ready to start this business, then you should keep the following tips in your mind.

Create the business plan

If you want to become successful, it is good if you came up with the business plan.  When it comes to the t-shirt printing industry, you have to remember you can have a large number of customers, based on the style, design and quality. Before you start the business, you should decide, if you will want to open the web store where you can sell the t-shirts or if you can be affiliated to a large online store where you may open a section.

Identify your market niche

You can decide on the audience based on what the customers need or the age of the customers.   While deciding on the customers, you can decide if you are targeting adults, teen, youth, toddlers or infants, if you can come up with the design for your customers or if they can decide on their design on their own.  You can also decide on working for different audiences also.  You should also consider if the quality and the fashion of the t-shirts will meet the trends that are already at the market.

Decide on the financial aspects of the business

Before you can establish a business, it is good to come up with an idea of how much it can cost. In case you are the entrepreneur, who think in terms of the long run, then the financial strategy has to include the following: the annual gross margin, monthly profit with the loss figures, business ratio which include the accounts payable and inventory turnover, projected revenue with the revenue resources with the projected expenses with assumption of varying or fixed costs.

After deciding on the cost, then you should decide also on the software.  You have to make sure that the software you use is rich with the features. It can help to win with the online t-shirt business and you can offer graphics, different types of the fonts, texts, clipart with the readymade quotes.  Other features like overlapping, shadows and masking effects will be added over the design.  According to the budget you have in mind, you may design at the front and at the back of the t-shirt.

After the software, you should decide on which type of printing to use, based on their pitfalls or and benefits.  The success can depend on the time you wish to spend on your production with the printing method you decided on.

Sort Order:

I checked it out. The main thing I was looking for was a supplier, like someone who can provide wholesale cost for bulk orders.

The website link you posted at the bottom will get you to a printer, but their prices are pretty steep at face value. There is an option to inquire regarding quotes for larger orders. I will wait to see what I hear back, but basically if you are designing per piece then you will pay approximately $23-$25 AUD Australian Dollars (which is about $18 USD) and that makes it hard to resell at retail because of slim margins. The average retail t-shirt in the U.S. is about $25 USD so and $8.00 margin before shipping costs is to rough to romp on. Thanks for posting this though!
