The book of Job is a book that tells us how a man devoted to God is subjected to a great test by the accusing angel. The book does not tell us what country Job is from, so the book has a universal message for all human beings, we must be prepared for everything in life, being good does not mean that bad things will not happen to you. In this book the gift of equanimity becomes particularly important, we should not be excessively happy when things are going well, nor become too depressed when things are going wrong, equanimity is a middle term like temperance.
In this book the human wisdom that pretends to have answers to everything, is put to the test, how can it be that a just and kind man receives so many misfortunes together?
Job during the time of trial is visited by his friends: Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar. He and his friends in a series of speeches grouped into three cycles, try to answer this question that worries and perplexes them, why does God in his wisdom allow the wicked to prosper and the righteous to suffer?
The book of Job tells us how Eliphaz, at the beginning of the last cycle of speeches, the third, explains to Job that he must trust in God's justice, although this justice may delay always comes, know how to endure an extremely difficult situation without hatred is a sign of spiritual growth and approach to God:
"Submit to God and be at peace with him;
in this way prosperity will come to you.
Accept instruction from his mouth
and lay up his words in your heart.
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored:
If you remove wickedness far from your tent
and assign your nuggets to the dust,
your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines,
then the Almighty will be your gold,
the choicest silver for you.
Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty
and will lift up your face to God.
You will pray to him, and he will hear you,
and you will fulfill your vows.
What you decide on will be done,
and light will shine on your ways.
When people are brought low and you say, ´Lift them up!´
then he will save the downcast.
He will deliver even one who is not innocent,
who will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands." Job 22:21-30.
