The Psalm 17:15 explains that the path of righteousness is the path to spiritual enlightenment: "I will see Your face in righteousness, I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness". This psalm bears a resemblance to beatitude: "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God", Matthew 5:8.
Righteousness is the golden rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", Matthew 7:12. The text tells us that it is those who live righteously who see God, by the law of return the spiritual gifts (the gifts are way, truth and life, John 14:6) have rewards and blessings (Luke 6:20-26). God cannot be seen with the senses, he is perceived with the mind, with the intelligence. That is why the bible tells us about the gift of knowledge.
The gift of Knowledge is one of the three spiritual gifts that are received with Gnosis. With the gift of knowledge we perceive God (the truth), with the gift of wisdom we learn to listen and with the gift of discernment we learn to correctly separate good from evil.
It is with Gnosis that we awaken in the likeness of God, that is, we reach a new level of consciousness; like King Solomon who receives the likeness of God in dreams, by devotion and righteousness God prints wisdom in the heart of man:
“At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ´Ask for whatever you want me to give you.´
Solomon answered, ´You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a heart that knows how to listen, to judge your people, and to discern between good and evil.´
The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, ´Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked.I will give you a wise and understanding heart.´”
