Over the past few years, evidence has been found and accumulates that the placebo effect is stronger. Clinical trials on various drugs used to treat psychological and medical problems, found that the difference in the magnitude of their impact relative to placebo decreased in size.

  • For example, at the beginning proven in part, Merck's drugs are on the verge of a promising new antidepressant release (code-named MK-869). The initial development and testing of MK-869 is very expensive, but it will pay off. MK-869 has performed brilliantly in early clinical trials - better than some other popular antidepressants on the market. In what has become an increasingly common story, plans to release MK-869 finally stalled after evidence gathered that new drugs failed to surpass placebo treatment. For pharmaceutical companies, the growing strength of placebo antidepressants is an irritating problem, resulting in a greatly reduced investment in this area.

  • on this hold can be at a developing Placebo Potential not limited to psychiatric drugs. and When researchers began to look closely at clinical trials of drugs, they found that an average of 27 percent of patients in 1996 reported pain reduction from newly developed pain medications relative to placebo pills. In 2013 that difference shrank to just nine percent. In the last decade, more than 90 percent of painkillers developed in the United States failed to show a significant increase in placebo in the final stages of clinical trials.

  • continue to take care to work At this point we can only speculate on the factors that contribute to the potential growth of placebo. Although it can only be regulated by research saying that the mechanisms underlying the effects of placebo treatment are still in its infancy, we know that raising people's expectations of non-voluntary responses increases the likelihood of occurrence. This type of hope effect plays a key role in hypnotic suggestion. For example, on a recognizable subject, levitation of the hands may cause the subjects to experience their hands spontaneously increased. The expected effect of this type can activate the psychological and autonomic nervous system changes as well.

in the end it can Draw on the placebo, in the case of pain medication, the placebo effect has become stronger in the United States and other common countries but not in Europe. What might explain this discrepancy? One possible factor, is that the United States allows direct advertising to consumers, while European countries do not. Thus American consumers are more primed to expect positive benefits from pain medication compared to Europeans. This explanation is very reasonable given the fact that the perception of pain is strongly mediated by psychological factors.

  • at the same time. While the growing strength of placebo is a major problem for pharmaceutical companies, it brings home the importance of doing research on the mechanisms underlying the effects of the placebo effect. Some readers may recall the book, The Web That Has No Weaver (1983), written by Ted Kaptchuk, one of the first Westerners to learn acupuncture in China after the "Open Door" policy was established in 1978. Kapchuk's book is one of the first books to be published. the first Western book written about Chinese medicine, and it has had a major impact in promoting the widespread use of acupuncture and other forms of Chinese medicine in the West.

  • on the behavior of researchers say For years, Kaptchuck has a perfect practice and can be done with a very successful in Chinese medicine, and is recognized as one of the foremost authorities in this topic. However, the longer he becomes convinced that the quality of the relationship he can develop with his patients, and their confidence in his ability to help them play a key role in his success as a Chinese medicine practitioner. In 2011, Katpchuk was hired to head the Placebo Study Program at Harvard Medical School. The program consists of an interdisciplinary team that explores the impact of patient-physician relationships, expectations, beliefs, persuasion and other psychological and interpersonal variables on the healing process in medicine.

on the conduct of the Program for Placebo Research which has accepted this case can and the widespread attention of the media, and plays off a vital role in medicine to work on and stimulate a broader interest in the field of placebo studies. As the pendulum in psychiatry and American psychology has swung clearly toward the privileging of brain science research at the expense of psychological and social dimensions, some of the leading research in medicine becomes more interdisciplinary.
