About half of all Americans today report feeling lonely and disconnected from other people, according to a recent report from the global health organization Cigna.
Roughly 46 percent of adults in the U.S. report that they feel lonely or left out.
Lonely by choice...
One previous study by AARP found that 1 in 5 adults reports feeling socially disconnected and for those who had larger social networks, they reportedly were found to have better brain health compared to those who had less engagement.

Minister of Loneliness...
However, trying to abolish loneliness seems like a similarly far-fetched goal that's much like their objective to rid the world of terror. The reason that I compare the two is because neither can ever be permanently extinguished from the world, no matter what resources are funneled toward trying to achieve that reality. The UK government is expected to release their loneliness strategy report sometime later this fall.

Doctors say that they are seeing patients several times a day who are coming in because they're struggling with loneliness, despite the tools being available at their fingertips to connect with billions of people worldwide.
In another report that sought to analyze loneliness, researchers pointed the finger at social media, suggesting that children today are feeling increasingly lonely because of their excessive social media use. The report comes from a helpline that's dedicated to offering assistance for any psychological or mental issues that children might have and they say that they've seen thousands of cases of loneliness in just the last year.
Researchers have been wondering why the numbers are climbing so quickly, what's prompting the rise in loneliness for children today and others, they wonder.
Could this illusion be what's fueling the loneliness for so many today?

I don’t know what the cause of mass loneliness is, but the British government’s solution of creating a Minister of Loneliness is a parody of stupidity. Bureaucrats are not therapists and the very idea of a bureaucrat therapist is a horror so grotesque it sounds like a lovecraftian nightmare.

Essentially humans are social beings, they need others. But in life we also have choices whether it is good for ourselves and others. The data you say is about a significant level of growth in a lonely life. Although that cannot be used as a benchmark for life.

I bet the Minister of Loneliness will be a woman, and so, will pointedly ignore half of the population.
And, the biggest issue with loneliness is that the media has done its best to fracture all societies. "We need diversity", they shout. But diversity does not make for good solid friends, it usually makes for uneasiness and problems in communication that are wearing. So, being alone is easier.
And families have been fractured. Divorces are encouraged. Children leaving the home is encouraged. Not being a burden is encouraged. In other words, separation is encouraged.

Hi @doitvoluntarily,
.jpeg)
I find the main reason behind this ,people are caught in the habit of comparing themselves to the lives of others.
There are some ways they can help.
Volunteering, attending community or religious events or taking a class may help form new friendships and reduce loneliness.
Going for a meal, coffee or a walk with family or friends may also help.
Thanks .

You have a valid point. Social media lacks the touch and in person interaction that we had in a younger former day. How do you hug someone on a computer let alone play Frisbee. You cannot camp with friends on Facebook. Thanks @doitvoluntarily. Loneliness is creeping in...maybe I have been on the computer too much today.
