Building Blocks Of Happiness - Block #3 Be True To Yourself

Being true to ourselves gives us incredible power, like a bulletproof vest that protects us from harm. We can always speak the truth about what we really think and enjoy the support of our body,mind,soul and even the entire universe creating true joy and happinessin our lives.

I decided to create 'The Building Blocks Of Happiness' to share simple and effective tips and techniques to fill your life with happiness, joy and purpose.

Every topic is called a block and using those blocks we will build an awesome life together

This is the third block and it is about How to be true to yourself. If you want you can check out the previous blocks - How to find your purpose and How to ignite your imagination.

The thoughts we think and the words we speak determine the person we become. Like an artist slowly chiseling a block of stone, every thought leaves its mark on our mind and every word is forever engraved on our soul.

The same way that our body is affected by the food we put into, so is our mind affected by the thoughts and words that we generate.

If you choose to eat junk food , filled with chemicals and poison, your body will suffer and become ill. If you have the wrong kind of thoughts and words your mind will suffer and so will your body as a result.

The worst possible thoughts and words we can create are lies. Just try to remember the first couple of times you lied to your parents as a child; I remember how my heart was pounding , my mouth was dry and it felt like some monster got it's clutches on my very soul.

Surely, this feeling can't mean anything good.
Moreover it's scientifically proven that lying creates stress inside the body, that is the main principle on which a lie detector works.
Stress accumulates inside the body and slowly starts to create various illnesses from skin conditions to fatal diseases.

The worst possible lie you can tell is a lie to yourself; When you are pretending to be someone you are not or avoid facing a harsh truth about yourself. In this state you are unable to change anything because you are weak and helpless, so you remain stuck in a vicious circle of lies that poison your very soul.

The really sad thing is that many of us live this deceitful life, fearing to face reality and being true to who we really are. This is a recepie for perpetual misery laced with moments of drunken fog.

For years I couldn't face myself for the person I truly am. Society, work and my Ego pushed me to keep a facade of this hard man that has no feelings and fears nothing. The truth was I was afraid to deal with my failures and ran away from every responsibility possible. This was devastating for my health both mentally and physically.

Psoriasis started covering my body and delusion that I'm okay and everyone are not made me distant myself from everyone who loved me.

The wake up call came when I was lying in the hospital recovering from a standard surgery that had some complications. My beautiful wife to be came to visit me and told me 'If you don't get yourself together I'm leaving.' These painful words hit me like an electric shock - 'I will be true to myself and stop pretending to be someone I am not' I said to myself.

A different man left the hospital that week, a brave man that was ready to face his weakness and admit his failures.

My life changed completely from that moment in the hospital.
I started doing what I truly wanted and loved, without lying to myself and to the people around me. I grew stronger with every passing day and happier by the moment.

Now, I would like to share some tips I use to be true and integrous to myself, that you can use to bring more happiness and joy to your life:

Always Speak Your Mind

Keeping your opinion locked up inside makes you vulnerable and what is even worse, keeping your opinion inside of you can make you angry,jumpy and irritable.

Always say your real opinion when you are asked or you can find yourself doing something that you disagree with.

You might do something you don't want eventually any way but speaking up will make you feel much better.

Don't Socialize with pretenders and liars.

There are a lot of people living a fake and untruthful life. This is their way to cope with their lives.

The problem starts when you spend a lot if time with people like that; you slowly start becoming like them, a liar and a fake that is unable to deal with the real issues in your life.

Stop seeing and talking to those people, delete their numbers and unfriend them. If you don't have a choice keep you contact to a minimum.

Always Tell The Truth.

Lying will get you sick and scared. You need to always say the truth. This is quite a challenge but no one said you have to be rude or harsh, you can ve kind and supportive while saying a painful truth to someone.

Use the 'Sandwich Method' - Say something good that is true, then the bad things and good things again. The idea is not to hurt someone's feelings but to help them improve their weaknesses.

Set Your Emotions Free

Bottling your emotions up is a big problem. When we try to supress our emotions they manifest in sickness, nightmares and addictions to anti-depressants.

Set our emotions loose and experiencing them set us free without keeping any grudges.

If you feel a certian emotion let it be, acknowledge that you feel it,experience it and let it go.
If your angry , be angry for a moment and just let it go .

Hopefully these tips will help you to become true to yourself, increasing your level of happiness anf making you smile just a little more often.

I appreciate all your thoughts to make a better life and so happy to were able to turn your health around. I work with the morbidly obese to help them break free of that nightmare.

You say, "If you choose to eat junk food , filled with chemicals and poison..." The thing I encounter over and over is that the person thinks they are eating the right foods - fooled by advertising, the major food companies, and their lies. I work to educate them and it is a big uphill climb!

Thank you for the support. Obesity in my opinion is a state of mind - a cross between a victim to a hurt child. You probably know very well that the real cause is in the mind. I think building up meaning and love as a way to deal with obesity will have the best results.

The most important thing I did to lose weight was to get over my excuses and take action. But I only lost about 40 pounds in the first three years of dedication to it. This was because I was completely ignorant about the food I was eating. Once I found and hired a knowledgeable person, I lost the next 85 pounds in 10 months.

For me - it's more about the poison in the food that people do not realize they are eating. Once they stop eating that - the weight comes off.

I see it all the time in groups for auto-immune disease. Some of these groups have found out that eating an "anti-inflammatory" diet helps with those diseases. This diet is basically poison-free in the scheme of things. Then - surprise! The person loses their pain, inflammation, and 50 pounds in a few months. The few people who were already thin have to learn how to eat fat so they will not fade away.

But in my weight loss groups - the people eat processed diet food, don't lose weight, and only feel worse. The lack of knowledge is vast in weight loss. I just read a post about the "best fast food for your diet." Ergh... If I chime in on that one, it won't be pretty.

As far as state of mind - it was much easier for me to be fat because that is what I always was. The first two years of having a thin body were terrifying in every way. All I wanted to do was be fat again - even though I knew that was crazy, and fought it every minute. Now eight years later - I still have trouble being this thin person, but I am still glad to be this way.
