If you haven't seen The Matrix... where have you been???
Infact just having a quick Google about it has reminded me that it is now 19 years old so it is quite possible that you haven't seen it.
If you haven't then do watch it. The basis of the film is that the reality perceived by most humans is actually a computer simulated world created by self aware machines. The real world consists of human bodies stored in pods. These pods use the human's body heat as as kind of battery for the machines.
When I say the Matrix is real, I'm not saying that we are actually in a computer program and don't realise it. (although if we were we wouldn't even know about it) but the reality that we each perceive is viewed through the filter of perception we give it.
What do I mean by that? I've been feeling a little flat the last couple of days. Contemplating my life and how financially, accommodation and career wise, things could be better ( I had to rewrite this part as I realised I am grateful for loads of things in my life my two wonderful kids, my friends, having some income, food, shelter, clothes, and relative health)
But how I view my living arrangements is through the lens of disappointment. Just over a year ago I was living in a room that was half the size, no heating or hot water. So if I was still in that room I would have been so grateful for having the room I am in now. Forget about where I should be for a man of my age, it was damn cold in that room so my ego would have been put to one side and I would just appreciate being warm.
So if I am currently looking at the present living arrangements through a lens. Is my reality the disappointment even real? If it isn't. What is?
It might not sound it but I've been into thinking positive for years. (probably not followed up with enough action) but one of the battles I've had was this
learning point: You have to think that what you desire is already happening
me: Let's say my desire is my own place to live. If I sit thinking that I live in a half decent house. How can I possibly believe it when I open my eyes and I am actually still in my shared flat?
This war between understanding that thoughts create my reality vs actual reality is a pretty tough one to reconcile.
Even though it is though, I wanted to share with you that if you are thinking something negative about your life. Doesn't matter how negative you think it is (coz believe me, I do the same). Try to question yourself.
Let's run through my current example
My Thoughts: The reality is I live in a shared flat, money could be a lot better, I'm nearly 40, I don't really have a career and based on the last 11 years of attempting online businesses that doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon.
Some of those are facts. The flat, age, money, lack of career and the last 11 years online. But does looking at my life via that lens help me now? Hell no.
Whilst some of those are facts. It is literally a waste of my time thinking about them. What I can do is try to learn about things that stop me focussing on things that are the past and that aren't supporting moving forward.
So If there is one thing I can pass on to you today is to be kinder to yourself and remember your reality might not be what you think.
Classic movie, it always seems to remain applicable to many aspects of life I find. I watched this with my girlfriend at the time in the theatre 6 times over the course of a week (we had a pile of free tix).
Perception governs reality in large part. Being constantly aware of this fact helps me to alleviate anxiety. How you choose to interpret the physical things around you determines the direction in which you nudge your emotions and how you choose to label the phenomenon of your life.

Six times. That is hardcore but fully understandable. It is an amazing film.
