  • Useful emotions.

Emotions arise as a result of the evolution of 'homo sapiens'. They have a biological and social function. They help us achieve what we want, from food to a full life together.

We tend to think that only positive emotions are positive, while negative ones become a burden. This thought is wrong, since every emotion is useful and valid . They send us messages about our needs and motivations. Therefore, you always have to listen to them and give them space.

Mastering your emotions helps you develop self-confidence and improve your relationships . Understanding and directing them is easy if we know how.

1. Take distance.

Deviate physically and emotionally when the situation overwhelms you. The best choice is always to postpone conversations when you are not reaching a point of agreement. Feeling angry in these situations is normal, but anger can blind us.

2. Change the perspective.

Focusing on the problem helps to find better and easier solutions. A good technique is to see us from above, as if we were outside the house. We change mental focus through physical detachment in imagination. A very useful resource in making important decisions.

3. Generate self-criticism.

To what extent are you focusing the situation well? Are you using the same tools as always wanting new results? Look for alternatives, different ways of acting. For that, analyze critically if what you were doing was working. If it works, repeat it. And if not then change it.

4. Blank mind.

Practices such as diaphragmatic breathing, swimming or meditating help us to calm the speed of thoughts. Slowing them down makes them better direct and builds new emotional intelligence tools. In addition, sports have the ability to burn stress naturally by the release of endorphins.

5. Promote humor.

Humor is one of the 24 personal strengths on which Positive Psychology is based. This ability allows us to broaden perspective, relativize and de-dramatize negative situations.

6. Free your emotions.

Writing about them or talking to a friend brings order to the flow of thoughts. This technique is useful to outline what we feel out of our head. From this perspective, we are able to encourage self-criticism and better cope with stress.

If we want to minimize negative thoughts we must first accept them in order to let them have their space and can flow until they disappear. The emotional intelligence is useful in society and determines the success we will have in the goals we set.
