When it comes to false accusations that result in the death of an innocent person, one story pops up in my mind:

There's this biblical story wherein a woman, Jezebel by name, accused a man of doing a blasphemy against the king and God and made the mob stone him to death.

Genocide seems to be a bigger version of this small, albeit polysemous. biblical story.
