Daily illustrated wisdom: We can drown in our ego or grab that helping hand.

in psychology •  8 years ago

So, when I was drowning the other day, a wise person appeared and handed me a stick. At first, I was like "I don't need any help from you old man!" but after a few seconds, I realized that I actually needed a lot of help.

Is it a true story? Hell no... but if you look at the picture, you might believe it

Talking about my fictional story - how often that wise person is gone after we say that we need no help? Most of the time.

How often do humans refuse to be helped? Most of the time.

Why? Because so often our ego is just bigger than our sense of reality and our principles are "to die for". Humans really like to play this game of proving their pointless point, even in the cage full of lions. What it makes them? A dinner.

It sounds silly when I put it this way, but just imagine how many times you refused to seek for a help or even accept the help, just because... [Insert your excuse here]

I understand how hard it is to take a hit straight into the ego, but sometimes it is worth it. I would have drowned without that stick and a person on the other side of the stick. What's my point?

We can prove that everyone is wrong and suffocate in a river just to be eaten by a bunch of crocodiles, or we can accept the fact that we need help and grab a friendly hand of others. And only when we learn to accept kindness, we are ready to provide some for the ones in need.

Nice post @writingamigo, resteemed.

It's funny, but one of the few things that sticks with me from a high school American literature class comes from a long forgotten short story (I believe from the Norton Anthology). It's the basic observation that we, the human race, try the hardest to hide from others the very things that we all share in common. I believe that many people view asking for help as a sign of weakness.

yes, it is true! I suppose it should not be like that, but world is a funny place, where things do not always happen just the way they should! Thanks for you insight!

powerful, i enjoyed this and was moved. upvoted and following

Thank you @soundlegion! I am glad that you liked it and I appreciate your support! Following as well!

Nice intro 😃
I was hooked!
Knowing when to let go of our ego is an important superpower we should all have.

Ha, the intro did what it had to do then!
Yeah, I wish we would have less ego. That sound easier than it is, tho!

Wow. This hits so close to home right now. I need my parents' help to buy it a lease or car. They are willing, but I have been hesitant. Why? Probably ego!

I hope you will make a right decision! Leeching others is never what we should do, but accepting help is very important! We just have to know that line between being helped and just using someone for our own good. Oh and yeah - take that help!

Sometimes we all need help, even if we don't want to admit it. Sarah Dessen's "Lock and key"

I cannot agree more @madlenfox Very wise words
