Well spoken. Unfortunately, this has occurred many times throughout Universe. Societies often overlook the big picture in order to address the immediate moment. Successful societies have learned how to harness the limitless amount of energy Universe has to offer that does not cause environmental destruction on inhabited worlds. Humans have been particularly destructive to their own planet, and they are now on the fast track to a catastrophic environmental disaster that could potentially lead to extinction. I believe that humankind possesses the intelligence to fix their habitat, but they are too busy fighting each other to do so. At this point only a concerted effort will save the species. They have the ability to do so, but unfortunately it is looking more like they do not have the will.
