More wrong answers get quantum computers to find the right one

in quantum-computers •  5 years ago

In quantum computers, generating more errors in a given operation may help reveal the right answer, according to new research.

My comments:

The idea is that adding noise to quantum computer operations produces more accurate solutions. This seems counterintuitive because, at least in statistics, the concern is with separating the signal from noise. However, some techniques actually introduce boost to make the signal easier to detect. Some methods add noise to multiple copies of the input to improve signal extraction. This is very similar to the method described in this article.
