Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest- serving monarch, whose astronomically popular seven- decade reign survived monumental shifts in her country’spost-imperial society and survived consecutive challenges posed by the romantic choices, mistakes and imbroglios of her descendants, failed on Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, her summer retreat. She was 96.
The royal family blazoned her death online, saying she had failed peacefully. The advertisement didn't specify a cause.
Her death elevated her eldest son, Charles, to the throne as King Charles III. In a statement, he said
“ The death of my cherished mama, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the topmost sadness for me and all members of my family.
