The book that Forrest has in his small suitcase and in which he puts the pen that falls at his feet is entitled Curious George, a children's book written and drawn by Hans Auguste Reyersbach and Margret Waldstein, first published in 1941. Forrest says, towards the end of the film, in dialogue with his son, that it is his favorite book.
