The Bible, and more precisely a sapiential book, the Book of Proverbs, teaches men with a simple quote about the importance of mercy: "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" Proverbs 15:1.
The spiritual gift of mercy is free, that is, it does not cost money, and it also solves the most direct problems, the science of wisdom teaches, because as the proverb says: "Those who are kind benefit themselves" Proverbs 11:17.
Mercy is compassion, gentleness, and kindness; and it could be said that this beautiful spiritual gift is what differentiates people who have the common sense from those who do not, because mercy edifies the inner well-being and the common good. In other words, the sensible man gives mercy to his neighbor, but the impious does not.
Avoid anger and all the passions that lead man to error, and this, the Book of Proverbs teaches, men can do by living the gift of mercy. Man must be kind not only with his words but also with his actions and his thoughts.
Mercy makes men more human and avoids unnecessary conflicts, and this was what Rehoboam, the son of King Solomon, confirmed; who with his harsh words caused the political and religious schism between the kingdoms of Judah and Israel, a division that lasted until the destruction of both kingdoms. Rehoboam despised mercy and reaped the fruits of his passion: "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7.
Mercy invites men to the real happiness, to avoid destructive unforeseen events, that is, the stumbling blocks, and not to live pending what others do in order to criticize them. Mercy is in every sense a blessedness for man.
