Two radio shows that I listen to occasionally and enjoy somewhat on the "right" side of the political spectrum are the Savage Nation and Rush Limbaugh.
Something I've noticed about these programs is that they have similar advertisements. These advertisements often consist of faith-based insurance cooperatives, health supplements, and treatments for erectile dysfunction.
What does that say about the people the program managers are expecting to be listening?
Advertisers do the math. They're not going to waste the energy trying to sell shit to wholly-disinterested parties. They're going to find the path of least resistance. Apparently, the people who most reliably populate the listener base of conservative talk radio are unhealthy, flaccid Christians.
Then I started cruising the radio dial to see what kinds of commercials are playing and I realized that every station is insulting its listeners in the same motion as their advertisers sell to their most likely customers.
NPR is particularly fucked-up in how they feel about their audience. That's funny.
