The Japanese corporation from the field of e-commerce Rakuten will allow its customers to pay with bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies, writes CoinDesk.
According to the press release, cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum, held in the wallets of users of the "Japanese Amazon", can now be exchanged for the company's own electronic currency Rakuten Cash. This currency, in turn, is available to top up the Pay App and the payment card.
Rakuten promises not to charge any fees for such transfers. Conversion limits range from 1,000 yen ($9) to 100,000 yen ($900) per month. As a result, customers will be able to pay with cryptocurrency in thousands of outlets in Japan that accept transactions using the app or the Rakuten card. In the spring, the company intends to implement direct integration of cryptocurrencies with the Pay App.
Rakuten Wallet president Tatsuya Yamada has previously said that the company's goal is "to make cryptocurrencies available for everyday payments in Japan." Rakuten subsequently allowed customers to use the loyalty points they earned to purchase cryptocurrencies.
