From cheerleaders and the six million dollar man - The Steemit high school

in rambling •  7 years ago  (edited)

If you compare steemit to a highschool movie the whales and dolphins would be the cool kids. The quarterbacks and cheerleaders.

Seemingly blessed and everyone wants to be like them as they seem so popular and pretty. People like to be around them to catch some their thunder.

While some might be really pretty and always scoring the meaningful touchdowns others are more like the six million dollar man.

They bought their way into their talents(including myself). They dont have to put up the best comments as people really like to get their votes ( even if they say countless time they dont really care about that ) and try to get attention.

Money talks...Your voice is worth something...

True. Chances are my vote is worth more in $ than yours though. Steemit is not a democracy as we know it.

It is a mix between a popularity contest and a free market.

Some people get whale support right away maybe through their content or the right contacts others six million dollar man their way into here to make themselves interesting.

The really successful once probably do both (while abusing the system as well).

I read often about the frustration people have how less money they make here, how they feel their voice has no value to others and how hard they worked for their post.

Hard work doesn`t mean success. It "just"increases your odds to become succeessful.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.

The upvotes you got were what the content was worth to the following you have build so far. The chances to go viral are slim.

If people out hustle you they are going to win the popularity contest and are creating an edge for themselves in the free market here.

They score the touchdown and get the girl

For now Steemit is like it is. For the good and bad. You can be who you are and write what you want to write about.
Maybe people like it, maybe not. But we have to accept the fact that the freemarket aspect of steemit makes rubbing shoulders with the right people is important if you want to achieve bigger payouts.

You can try to get in touch with them or complain about it that other people do that. Up to you, honey as they would say in Thailand.

But I guess high school was always a place of drama as well.

am one of the frustrated ones trying to make it here through hard work , maybe one day i will hit the jackport

you joined february 2018 how can you be already frustrated :-)

from what i was told my expectation was high now am learning the long curve and am finding out that my vote is worth nothing. It has a 0SBD value and to get people to vote your articles is a tall order unless you buy votes from bot for your article to trend

You have to work hard. I started from 0 and I invested over 10 hours a day in the first 3 months. That's crazy, but I can see the results now.

on authoring articles or commenting on them ? or both? 10hrs whaaaaat!!!!

well...still worth more then before you joined right?

look back in a year if you keep at it.

While I am fine with commenting without upvoting I find it a bit off putting if one upvotes the own comment but not the authors post btw

Amazing writing sir.... really enjoyed it...👍

thx

I joined steemit being an arrived person already with nothing to complain. I enjoy posting regularly in #steemsilvergold and am fascinated to see the creativity of others to make the most out of their wallet. If you bear in mind that in some countries daddy earns 3600 dollar per annum I can understand the eagerness of these young ones. So do not upvote me!

I still do but I think that is a good example. While I dont support spam plagiarism etc I think for many this can be a great oppurtunity to earn some income and make a change in ones life. Especially if unemployment is a problem.

I really enjoy the steemsilvergold tag as well as it is quite a positive enviroment there.

Hehe I am still a kid in real life and I am almost a dolphin here. <3

and soon a whale

Maybe in 5 years!

Catch the six million dollar man... Hah ha ha..

Fabulous written style man. Nice to see your article and thanks for share such a great content to us. Keep it up!

thanks

It's my pleasure my friend.

only money talks here lol hahah but this is a great community no doubt about it

as the line up of frivolous comments stack up below...all the folks hoping to get seen ...great job, congratulation, keep it up, awesome.... be my friend mr. flipstar.... haha.
it sure is a warped highschool. shit aint fair. life aint fair.
just repeat this mantra if you are out there and feel frustrated. steemit doesnt owe me shit...steemit doesnt owe me shit.

you are a wise man :-)

Very good post of yours brother, I think the analogy in many ways is quite spot on. Also as you say, hard hustle merely increases your chances of success, that's it. Or as Seneca said:

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Thank you :-)

Yes I think the analogy works quite well.

That hard work doesn`t mean success to 100% can be disappointing and I had to learn this through poker and I did not enjoy it but also it is a good thing to know.

Agreed 🙏🏼

great post resteem because true (especaly the one with the highly subjektive "hard work")

but just dont get why people put that much money in steem power obviously its not linear with payout. When I put 10% or even higher of my Portfolio in here the "Risk" increases and the possible upside of an alternative Investment (like litecoin, ethereum, btc what ever) decreases because of lack of flexibility. The privilege of beeing a dolphine doesnt guaranties more return (but very low SP guaranties loss of efficieny). Time will tell. A nice used porsche 911 can be as good as a new lamborgini, but just my opinion

I can only speak for myself here.

I really enjoy the platform and the community and while it has some problems I see so many upsides. While an investment in other coins is certainly safer I want this platform to succeed so it is also put my money where my mouth is thing.

I like the idea of me giving out 100$+ a day to others.

Also I like the feeling of earning I get from here.

The returns are way better of course if you dont have invested while one upvote can be several thousand % in theory.

I would prefer a porsche btw ;-)

Well i like the way of the top Steemians compared ;)
Well that sure is somehow the case ;)
Well good or bad we are here and enjoying it that is what matters !

that is the most important part

The artists/creative people would be the band I feel like. We are clickish but we enjoy amusing those not in the click and are generally friendly with everyone.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.

I really love this quote. I think it's supposed to be funny, but I do believe it to be literally true.

could be the drama class as well :-)

I like the quote, too. Not sure if it is supposed to be funny but it is very true.

I am very motivated with your writing this, thanks for share your experience..
