I think that has to do with the old trauma of Russian occupation.

    Well, formally it was not an occupation. Just Soviet bases in the fellow country from the Warsaw Pact. Of course it is not exactly comparable with USA and NATO now, but...
    Anyway, why to invite the army of a superpower to your country when you just got rid of the army of another superpower?
