The response of victim's family members will determine how well the victim will open up and get healed. Sometimes, family members don't believe the lady or girl was raped. They feel she asked for it, sometimes others even blame the victims.
Some parents accuse the rapevictim of lying, preferring rather to defend the accused. A mother beat her daughter when she claimed that the uncle living in apartment with them raped her. The beating both shocked and confused the girl could it be that the uncle was right by raping her and she was wrong with what the uncle was doing. She never went back to her mum, preferring to suffer in silence and bear the burden alone. The sexual abuse continued for years until her uncle left.
It is important to know that the way family members handle the issue will determine how quickly the rape victim comes out of the trauma. Family member and loved ones should support the victim. It is not a time to point accusing or condemning fingers, neither is it time to blame her.
