This Saga is Finally Coming to a Close

IMG_5533.jpg

The Bowes Family Mouse Hunt has seen some highs and lows...okay, it's been all lows. If you haven't been following the saga, the chapters are here: 1, 2, 3.

We left off with our neighbour giving us her extra mousing cat, and poor Edgar was still hiding in the basement afraid of her new territory. Yes, I said her. Edgar is a female. We have so many hens with boy names, it must be our destiny, this one wasn't even our fault!

She Chilled With Me All Day

As soon as the kids left for school I went down to the basement and gave her some soft food. She came out of the box that she was hiding in and started gobbling it down. I go back upstairs and next thing I know she's up there with me wanting pets and attention, jumping up on my lap.

She followed me everywhere today and we even had the greatest nap, I'm amazed at what an affectionate cat this is! Unfortunately when the boys got home she went back into hiding, but not as deep, she was chilling on the top steps of the basement stairs, major progress from yesterday.

Not gonna lie, she really wasn't down for a selfie, took it anyways. I promised her I wouldn't put it on facebook (didn't say anything about STEEM though).

Why I'm Sure Edgar is Going to Win

She came upstairs last night after we all went to bed. I heard her smashing around in the kitchen at around 2am! I thought for sure I was going to wake up to see the mouse left somewhere as a gift to me. Rambo Mouse eluded Edgar Cat in Round 1. You gotta remember though, it was her very first time upstairs, she doesn't even know all the nooks and crannies yet, and his path of travel.

Tonight, as soon as it quieted down in here, she went straight to the kitchen and is already on the prowl. She's been in there all night doing her pre-stakeout shit. I know tonight she'll be laying in wait when the lights go out. Everyone pay your respects to Ratty Rat, he's as good as gone.

I've always been a cat person, I've had so many in my life it's been so empty without that feline energy around. The reason we don't have a cat is because when we first moved to this house our beautiful kitty Rainbowes got hit by a car on the highway. For those of you who don't know, our house is on the highway. We vowed not to get another cat until we moved.

The reason we said yes to taking Edgar is because she is an older cat, who's home was on the same highway, and according to our neighbour, she stays the hell away from it. So far she hasn't even wanted to go outside anyways, but I hope when she does she stays safe. And no, having an indoor cat is not an option. I couldn't keep a cat inside if it wanted out. What an utterly boring life that would be for the cat. No offence to people with indoor cats, that's your choice. I just can't do it.

Are you a cat lover? Dog lover? Or do you think all animals are obnoxious? I fall into the cat, and more recently, chicken category just because they are very independent and don't need a lot of "hand holding".

I have to admit Im not a pet lover. I like other peoples animals ok, Im just not a pet person. Probably because over the years I have lived with pets, and their owners dont take care of them. Definitely like cats over dogs tho. I do want to get some chickens when the time is right. They actually do so many good things for humans, as witnessed in your blogs

GO EDGAR GO!

Thanks for supporting Edgar haha, he lost to Ratty Rat again last night :) I woke up to my son saying: "Mom...the mouse is hiding under the bench and he keeps coming out, then I scream and he runs back in." ... Edgar looked haggard, I think he had a rough night hahhahaaa....slept a lot today. Round 3 tonight....as per usual I'll keep you posted :)

💚 Edgar
RIP Ratty Rat. 🐀
As far as the indoor/outdoor debate, I think it varies a lot. It depends on the cat, their personality, what they are used to, etc., AND where they live. Maggie, for example, has no interest in going out. I think she's been on the balcony only once or twice in nine years, and only when I am out there as well (and Yuan isn't). This is her indoor kingdom, which she guards from maintenance men by growling and hissing and batting them on the ass if they're here when I'm not home, which is why I always have to be home for maintenance, and from neighbor cats who peed on my front door mat outside by pissing all over the front door for MONTHS. I joked that she was sending love letters to her lover outside when she did that, but in reality it was probably more likely the pee letter said, "FUCK OFF, YOU, THIS IS MY HOME."
Yuan by comparison is my adventure cat, but still isn't a roamer and wants me there with him. He's usually content with hanging out on the balcony, and sometimes we'll walk around the courtyard together, with or without a leash. But, as soon as there is another human or A DOG in the courtyard, he wants to come inside and will pull me to the door if he's on a leash. When I pick him up and take him one floor down (that's where the gardens are), he freaks out and wants to come home (and will race to the door that would be ours if we were on the correct floor). If I go inside without him, he comes running home. This is him doing that: 😸

Omg what a terrible neighbour cat!! I would have been freaking out I can't believe how calmly you stated that!! Cat piss is one of my most dreaded things though...

I agree totally, if the kitty is happy to be in, I let them stay in. I just always end up with these feral outdoor types hahaha, ok, so I pick up a lot of strays...

I loved the vid, watching him bolt over to you soooooooo sweet <3 <3 <3

I have dealt with so many pee wars at this point, sometimes I want to cry. LOL. But thankfully it's not been happening for a while! 😸
I never figured out what cat did the initial pee on my door mat. But it took gallons of Nature's Miracle, throwing out the mat because washing it was insufficient, shampooing the carpet more than once, putting a litterbox in the front hall to trip over and barricading the door with odd objects so she couldn't get there at least while I was at home, and months of trying these strategies until she stopped spraying the door. And I do mean, she, a spayed female, would back up to the door and pee horizontally like an intact spraying male. Oh, the kitty drama!

Oooh the HORROR!!!!!! I'm so glad it finally ended...I wonder what finally made her stop...

The barricade and box in the hall. I didn't do that 'til the end because it was a pain in the arse. 😂 It gave the cleaning agents time to do their job well enough and dry without being hit again with more pee.

But yeah, this experience is why I want hardwood or tile or NOT WALL TO WALL CARPET floors. 😂

Well well well little ratty rat rat Rattus rattus seems your demise is pending arrival. Super mouse in the house no more. Miss Lyndsay Bowes planting seeds hatching wicked plans indeed. The witch and her new black cat set out to catch that dirty stinking little rat. That theiving little rat the miser is unaware the cat here in the house much wiser. And in the end there'll be no more theiving all that shall be left is I your only one loyal ever lasting fan left standing alone silently grieving.
(((VALHALLA AWAITS YOU. ))) Remember to never measure quality of life by amount of time spent living. It is how you lived that matters. YOU LIVED FREE Great Warrior Anarchist Super Mouse. That Lyndsay bowes should move if she don't like it. 😂😂😂🙊
Im gonna miss you little buddy.

He's still living free!! Outwitted the cat last night and bravely taunted us in the dining room this morning...my respect for Ratty Rat grows...

He's quite the achiever. He's becoming the people's champion.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED YET!

Cat is my favorite animal ^_^
your cat is very beautiful, so cute , the coat is very black, I remember a movie " how to train your dragon " haha
Thanks @lyndsaybowes <3 <3

Ahh yes, "Toothless" I can definitely see the resemblance!!

Hahahaha .. yaap "Toothless" great , You even know his name .. haha
I love to see it, your cat, does he have a baby, send me a black one like that .. haha

Edgar is a beaut! When I moved to dartmouth I had a lady cat just like her who I couldn't stand to keep inside... even though I tried to transition her to outside city life, she disappeared. I'm not big on kitties since then :(
But I love me my chickies ♡♡♡♡
Hope Edgar catches that rodent asap!

Awwww...poor kitty....I wonder what happened to her... :( :( :(

I've actually never really considered myself a cat person, but whenever I've had one, it's because it came to me. Puss, dear old ginger Puss, was simply part of the furniture when it was our turn to move into Toad Hall. A family that share's a cat together, shares houses or however the adage goes :)

When we first came here, the house had been shut up for a season and Puss had almost gone feral. @winstonalden's grandfather was ill and in a nursing home and @winstonalden's mum would come up once a week and give the cat food. Then she decided that a racoon had got in the house through the cat door, so she closed that and Puss had to live outside. So, she adopted the old pool house (we sometimes call it the cat house now, but not a very good name) so once, all things were settled and we and the two dogs (at the time) moved into Toad Hall, she was curious but not too friendly. She'd sneak in and eat the food we'd leave her and then race out. Then one day she came in, saw us, jumped 10 feet onto the top of the kitchen cabinets and chilled.

Since then, she's never left our sides. She is glued to me and follows me about, sits on my desks and seranades me whilst I I draw. She calls for me if I am not in my studio (her favourite place to be with me, as I have a bed a sofa and my drawing desk in there and she loves all three of those places to sleep and look at me.

I have one old paint brush a round one that I rub her chin with and she gets so excited when I take it out of the little silver cup full of brushes I keep on my desk. She knows she is getting a good chin rubbing when she sees it.

I too would never make a cat stay inside. To each their own and of course if others like to do it, then by all means let them. But, I would not. Puss loves it inside but she really likes to go adnvernturing. And she LOVES our beach and I would never take that away from her. She sits at the edge of the water when I do my morning snorkel in the Summer and waits for me, licking salt from her paws or chasing minnows.

She luxuriates in the sand when I am laying down there reading or drawing as she really likes to roll and scratch herself in it.

And she loves to catch and eat bunnies! And I don't want her to stop that nor does my veg garden. She also follows me in the Spring and Summer to my veg garden where I have a little pond with frogs and such. She loves drinking out of that pond and watching the turtles or frogs. It's very tiny (I put it in for frogs to eat the bugs on my veg and flowers in there.) She has even gone on walks with us, so I could not take all that away from her. But, in the winter, she only goes out to use the 'little cat's room'. She has a back up litter box in the garage, but she only uses that when the snow is too tall for her to leap over.

So, there you go another far too long answer to a simple question in your post :)

Aww, I loved the reply, and I'm so glad that Puss came back from being almost feral...for that cat to trust again is a pretty big accomplishment!!

This melted my Heart!!

I have one old paint brush a round one that I rub her chin with and she gets so excited when I take it out of the little silver cup full of brushes I keep on my desk. She knows she is getting a good chin rubbing when she sees it.

Now as you know I love my cats. Mr. Joey cat is apparently sleeping on my side of the bed now. Sort of taking over the spot. hmmmm. He never asked to go outside in the big house in Ontario, so many rooms to wander. Now he loves his deck and he cant wait to go out there. Can't let him off the deck, Mr. Foxy will get him or Wile E. Coyote. That cat there sure is pretty. I have been told however by the mouse expert that you need to get the trap with the black spot and put the food on that spot. I dunno you gotta ask him. I don't go near those things. Happy mousing etc. Got some critters here to and they seem to elude me.

Wishing you would have brought Joey to Oma's?

ya. but I think he is keeping the man good company. Craig would be really lonely. So the critters here stay till we bring Joey boy next time.

At the very worst, you guys may have your own Tom & Jerry episodes right there in the house.

Yes, totally! Except I think these two may be friends...Catty Cat Vs. Ratty Rat Round 2...Ratty Rat won!

cute cat @lyndsaybowes. i hope no body tell to edgar you posted her photo here.. ^_^. btw, the hair "BLACK" colour makes her become the real hunter.

I think Ratty Rat's days are numbered! Good to get rid of the little thief. I love cats and dogs. I have 5 rescue dogs and 3 cats (plus the neighbour's cat that likes to come and visit). So my house is full of pets running in and out all day long. BTW my cats and dogs sleep together! Weird, uh?

Aww, that's so great that the cats sleep with the dogs, who could ask for more?

Sounds like your cat is getting more and more at home.

I'm a cat person.

My cat in a video last fall.

Oh my goodness, ahhaha, she really looks like she's enjoying it up there, purring and everything <3 <3 <3 Thanks for sharing David!

My Grandmaa used to do the very same technique to minimize the specie of mouse from her house by petting the cat :P
This cat looks very innocent yet very angry for the presence of mouse :D

By the way i love goats other than hens ;)

We are very blessed to have the cat, she is so sweet, and a good hunter.

How many goats do you have?

Oooooohhhhhhh yes Edgar!! That is a fine looking mouser! Her and Spike would make a handsome power mousing couple ;)
Screenshot_20180324-080703.jpg
He avoids our highway...I feel like you are ok with this one <3 <3 <3

Bwhahahaha with the boy chicken names! Us too, its hard when they're chicks to know! We had a Miss Melvin and a roo named Chickaletta at one point!!

Oooooh if you guys ever move here, they need to breed!! Is Spike fixed?

wow black cat looking so cool, btw cat on her owner hand looking so pretty 🙂

Thank you very much @tetas08 <3 :)

We moved in this new house 5 months back. I have to stay up till late at night because I'm a freelancer and have to work as per different timezones. One night I was working with headphones on my ear and I listened a baby crying in a strange voice. Then something fell off the shelf. I had to rush outside my room and what I saw was a HUGE cat ready to attack a relatively very normal cat. The huge cat was pure white where as the normal one was full light brown. Luckily, I was able to undone that battle. Since that night, I have encountered the same baby crying voice at least thrice however, it no more is scarier for me. It was scarier because we don't have cats here in our houses and a person knows a little about animals and their voices. Just like you, me too don't like animals indoor.

I know the sound you mean, it's a terrible sound! I think the female cat make that noise when they are "in heat". So you may not have broke up a battle, but a love making hahahaha! :) :)

Oh that makes me a villain for an unwanted/unassigned film. :D May be, this brings betterment in my UNacting skills. :D

Female cats are the best mousers. Make cats are way to lazy... that mouse has 3 days tops..

I like your confidence in her!! :) :) :)

My first boy Butterscotch was a mouser ...and he was declawed! He would leave them for me at my door (I was a teenager), and my dad would pick them up and dispose of them, and Butter would be like, "HEY! THAT WAS FOR MY HUMAN!"

I will have you know that my very fat lazy male cat has caught 5 mice thus far.

Awww, Edgar is so cute. I like cats though, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. They're so adorable. Sometimes they're standoffish, but that's probably just because they don't trust people... or maybe just the person they don't like. :)

Good luck on the rat hunt, Edgar!

Exactly, cats don't need our Approval! I love em!! <3 <3 <3

Go Edgar go! 😼🐀😼

Ratty Rat wins Round 2! To be continued...

I have faith in the mouser cat. They always get their prey. 😻

Red Corner, Catty Cat Vs Blue Corner, Ratty Rat....Place your bets

Dayam...seems I may need to get myself a Jack Russell too hahahaa!!! Ratty Rat won Round 2!!! And was mocking us from the dining room this morning!!! Who could blame him really....

Maybe Edgar is mocking ratty rat...Lulling it into a false sense of security:)

Heyyyyyy you may have something there!! I like that hahahhaaaa!!!

Black cats always have an interesting personality. We have 4 cats, and the black cat is the only one of the 4 that wants to sit on my lap at night.
DSCN6895.JPG
She's just so helpful, you know...

Awww, I have no clue why black cats get such a bad Rep!

Edgar 🐱💜💙 such a purrrrrrfect kitty 🎶 bub-bye mr. Ratty rat..... been an entertaining saga 🐁 #animallover over here 🙋‍♂️ though i actually am more responsible with plants. I seem to be more cut out for them for some reason 🤷‍♀️

Ohhh kiy-kiy no one will see you on fb!! Don't worry pretty 😂💖💜💛💚💙

It's awesome that you have a green thumb! I can't wait until all the gardening photos begin!

Love the steem exclusive photos! My.money's on Edgar! 😎

Ok..let's bet. How much you want to bet.? Some steem?

How about the traditional gentleman (and lady) one dollar bet. To be paid by the looser on my upcoming Novacadian 2018 Nova Scotia Bike Tour. 😎

Done deal. when does that start?

Technically the training has continued through most of the winter. Pleasant weather will be a big factor for the Hackett's Cove lag of the tour. 😎

ok.....keep me informed. I will be standing on the 333 with a banner and a great big HELLO....

HAHA :) He'll be here for dinner!

Really....how very cool.

All animal lover here, but currently we have 2 cats. Both rescue cats. One is mostly blind, but gets around fine...and the other is a skinny scardy cat. They tolerate one another but don’t get along that well. They must share our laps!

Good luck with the mouse hunt. I have faith that the cat will win. She looks a lot like my cat, Shadow.

Enjoy the weekend!

Aww, well I'm glad they get along half decently... <3 <3 <3

@lyndsaybowes, Woah.....Edgar wanna be awesome kitty 😼. She looks around can guess seek Ratty rats. I'm pretty love more to kittens and don't like doggy. But my home forever couldn't keep safely any animals. Sadness. I don't know why and what's reasons. It's our destiny. Edgar has powerful eyes I've seen today. You're real animal liker. I know, you give your fully confidence to Edgar.

She has such vibrant eyes, they practically Glow!

I'm sorry you have had bad luck keeping animals :'( :'(

Definitely a cat lover. Dogs are OK but get annoying with their neediness.

Edgar seems like a sweet puss. That mouse must be shaking in it's little mouse boots with a fur ball breathing dragon on the prowl now!

I wish the mouse was shaking in its boots, it's still alive and was mocking us this morning from underneath the bench in our dining room...Edgar looked haggard like she had a rough night :) hahahaa!!

LoL,

Mouse 1
