This post of mine is an entry to the contest initiated by @knowledges on realityhubs tribe. The link to the post can be found here.
It wasn't an easy choice to decide which dapp or tribe is my favorite. I have been involved with actifit and steemhunt from quite early on and I have also been active on realityhubs and tasteem. Steemhunt team has also recently launched another dapp - reviewhunt. However, I am going to choose steemhunt, the reasons for which I will elaborate later. First, let's get an overview of steemhunt.
Steemhunt is a dapp for people interested in tech to share new and cool tech products with other members of the community. The products could be gadgets, apps, novel engineering applications, chrome extentions etc. I have even posted high end mechanical watches on it and I have also seen people share EVs, and even cool cars. Thus there is a limited, yet diverse product universe that one can post about.
Every day, a hunter can post as many cool products he/she likes. At the end of the day, based on community member upvotes, a ranking of daily approved hunts is decided and the top 100 hunts get an upvote from steemhunt. The vote value of a hunter's vote is equal to his/her user score (that is a combination how active the hunter is on steemhunt and also the number of hunt token he/she holds). Hunters also get upvote for comments, decided in a similar fashion. The hunts are first moderated and checked by steemhunt moderators, who ensure that the hunt posted meets posting guidelines of steemhunt. Only one hunt per hunter is upvoted, and two comments. Steemhunt also chooses weekly influencers from the community. Influencers are responsible for voting undervalued hunts during the day and there have 3x vote value.
The image above is what the homepage looks like and the hunt on the left is my hunt for today. On clicking the profile icon, the following drop down appears -
I have posted 440 hunts so far and have a decently high user score. I am very active on the platform.
Right, given the audience for this post are those that are posting on steemit, I am going to limit the description about steemhunt to this point. That is enough overview for me to move on to why I like the platform, and its pros and cons. If you want to know more, please leave me a question as a comment and I am happy to answer. Moreover, I am fairly certain, most readers would have tried posting at least one hunt on steemhunt.
Alright, so what are some of the positives according to me?
First, and most important is that it has turned someone like me, an person with average knowledge of tech products, into a constant consumer of tech news. When I first started out on steemhunt, I started posting without reading the posting guidelines. A few moderator rejections followed and I was forced to read posting guidelines and I soon got the hang of it. Now, I know a lot more about tech than I would have, had I not tried steemhunt. The gamification of content and the reward system both come together very well to turn normal users into hunters. I can't say how many times I have added more value to a conversation by talking of a product I saw on steemhunt. Even if you don't hunt, just going through the list of hunts, to curate, is a great way to stay up-to-date with new tech.
Second, its moderated proof of brain, purposed based content and fair reward system enables anyone to post and earn rewards. When I was new to steemit, I was quite surprised to see the quality of content earning rewards on steemhunt. Finding an audience on steemit was next to impossible. On steemhunt, a community interface, the reward structure and moderation could ensure anybody's content can be deserving, and new or old users can post content as there are rules to posting. With ease of use and a fair distribution of rewards, more adoption of steemit and steem blockchain could happen in my view. One did not need a huge amount of steem power to self-upvote. One needn't have been an early adopter of steemit. New users could easily come, post cool products and earn a reward. Things have evolved slightly over the years. New users have to get to user score 1 (user score starts at 0 and goes up to max 10). Getting to score 1 may require some effort in the beginning.
Third, what I like is the vision and execution of the team. Steemhunt is very well designed and over a year, has gone through a number of iterations, only to become better. The second stage of the hunt platform ecosystem is reviewhunt, where product makers launch marketing campaigns and hunters use their social media channels to create a launch hype about the products. The third stage is idea hunt, where hunters can fund new products. All three come together very well and more importantly, the team has been very disciplined about executing their roadmap. As SMTs were delayed, they launched an ERC20 version of their token, so reviewhunt was launched in a timely manner. The team over the years, has surely shown that they can deliver what they promised and that shows determination to run a successful project.
The 3 reasons that I have mentioned above, I think are very unique to steemhunt. If I look at actifit, while I have delegated maximum SP to it, I still would like more clarity in terms of the roadmap and see a bit more action in terms of making actifit tokens useful. Tribes are fairly new. There is steemleo that I think has promise but the best is realityhubs (not because I am participating in this contest). However, I think that we all are humans, and second we are consumers, lastly all of us have thoughts and opinions. We all want to voice them, which is why I like tasteem too but I don't see how it can be useful in the long run. Realityhubs is similar - turning the average person into a product reviewer. The tribe gives the chance for everyone to voice their opinion. I think where steemhunt has an edge over these tribes and dapps is the team has always been very clear about the roadmap and vision.
The cons? The one con is that there are lots of hunters have no clue about what they post and they only want to make steem/sp. They'll post junk only to get an upvote. I think for once I would like people investing in a platform to actually bring more users on board and have a dapp with 100 million users. A community where members don't care about rewards earned today but what the platform evolves into in a few years. I wish there were more users with that intent.
That's my review of steemhunt. Hope you like it. If you do or you don't, do share your feedback in comments.
Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 12 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.
I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 4 SBD worth and should receive 285 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

Thank you for your entry into this contest. Thought I have only posted a few hunts on steemhunt but I also think it is a great platform.
I admire the project team for their hardwork and consistency in growing the steemhunt community.
Tribes like steemhunt show a lot of potential in helping to boost user adoption on the steem blockchain.
We look forward to your future contribution.
