It was my first day in my driving lesson and I was catching up pretty great, so my father decided to let me drive the car. I was in charge to steer the wheel, to step on the clutch and the brake, but my father was in charge to control the gas. And if you could imagine, it was pretty chaotic. That was it, at first it went smoothly until an intersection came, numerous vehicle drove in front of us and many people went out from the other side of the street. So as expected, we panicked. My father told me to step on the brake, but carelessly he too stepped on the gas. So instead of stopping the car, it ended up making the car run faster. I stepped hard on the brake and ended up turning off the whole engine. To make the long story short — lesson learned, we will never do that again. 🙂

Our walk with God is like being in a car and you’re seated next to the driver. The car signifies your life, the driver being the Lord and you being the passenger. The driver gets to decide what to do with the car, either to drive it to a soft smooth road or to a rocky muddy road or simply to just stop the car, but the driver only has one priority alone and it is to drive his passengers home safely.

When I was in that car panicking with my father, it made me visualize my own life. There are a lot of times were we wanted to go somewhere that we think would give us a marvelous adventure, times were we wanted to start living our dream but end up living in the opposite, and times were we thought this is where you wanted to go but everything stopped. Our life is similar to the scene I presented earlier, at times we kept on stepping on the gas because we wanted to go further, we wanted to reach something, simply because we wanted to, we wanted to, but God kept on stepping on the brakes.

If I wasn’t able to hit that brake, me and my father would have ended up in an accident, we could have hit a vehicle or a person, we could have ended up hurting ourselves in the process. We could’ve ended up worse. God stepped on the brake because He knows what’s best for us. He is saying No, because He wants to protect us from something, He wants to protect us from ourselves or just wants us to enjoy the ride with Him. Either way, He knows what’s best and its high time that we just wait for where He wants us to go. The wonderful thing about our God is that even though we keep on insisting our own way, making wrong decisions in the process and doing what seems to be good in our own perception, He is always there ready to hit the brakes when something goes wrong. He is always there to hold us when we’re scared, He is always there ready to catch us when we fall.

Dear Lord, there are many times that I’ve tried to force something in my life, times where I’d get frustrated, times where I just wanted to live the dream that You’ve set in my heart, but still I wasn’t able to grasp it. Lord, let me learn to trust in You, to rely everything to You. Help me to surrender according to Your will, to never rush on anything and to just wait on Your timing. Help me to remember that You own the car, not me; that You know what’s best, not me; and that You’re driving for my safety. Help me to wait on You, Lord. Amen.
