Receive the word of God: Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers

In the first epistle to Timothy, the apostle Paul gave a series of recommendations to his beloved disciple to develop with success his pastoral activity, and among these recommendations was the fidelity to the word of God that leads us to the Kingdom of Heaven. The teaching of error (heresies) and ignorance were in the times of the early Church the main problems faced by the disciples.
To receive the word of God with a well-disposed heart is the path towards the spiritual salvation, the gospels explain to us, that is why faith is born with preaching. The importance of the word of God is one of the most insistent teachings of the Lord Jesus, because from the word of God the good love (Agape) is born, if we do not testify with the word we cannot live the commandment of love.
About this Jesus tells us in the gospel:
"While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. Then one said to Him, ´Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.´
But He answered and said to the one who told Him, ´Who is My mother and who are My brothers?´ And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, ´Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.´" Matthew 12:46-50.
The love of God, the love projected towards the whole creation of God, can only bear fruit in the heart when the word has taken deep root in the soul of man, and for this, perseverance and firmness are also needed, as explained in the parable of the Sower.
In the first epistle to Timothy, the apostle Paul asks his disciple to persevere with love in the doctrine of the word, because on this depends the spiritual life of all those who have accepted Jesus as savior: "Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers" 1 Timothy 4:16.
