If you cook for yourself often or sometimes instead of eating takeout or delivery food, you might be interested in finding easy and tasty meal recipes.
I'll share my go-to recipes happily. This egg rice is one of them. A Korean one. And a very simple one.
All you need are a Korean instant steamed rice (or homemade steamed rice, of course), a fried egg, soy sauce and sesame oil. Sugar can help, but not a must. Also, you can use butter instead of sesame oil.
And this is how to make it.
Put the microwaved (or homecooked) rice in a bowl that is spacy so that you can mix the rice easily when you eat.
Fry an egg as you please. A sunny side up with uncooked yolk would be my choice and most of Koreans' as the raw yolk works so well with the rest of the ingredients of this simple dish. However, if you only eat fully cooked eggs, go with it. It will be alright.
Put the egg on the rice and add 3/4 tablespoon of soy sauce. Add a little bit of sesame oil or a half spoon of butter.
That's it. mix them all well and enjoy. You can add soy sauce and oil a little more to your liking after mixing and tasting.
- If you want to make it healthier and tastier, get some lettuce, spring onion and/or dried seaweed paper(called kim in Korean) and put them on the hot rice before you cook the egg. One or two leaves of chopped lettuce, a pinch of chopped fresh spring onion and/or a TS of thinly cut strips or hand crushed seaweed paper would be good. In this case, you better put a little more soy sauce to the mix for the taste.
- Also, adding a little bit of sugar (roughly 1/4 of soy sauce) in the soy sauce and stir it well for it to melt at the beginning of this cooking could enhance the taste. If you already cook often, you may know how some sugar does the trick in savory food.
