The other week my parents came to visit and my mum was cooking for the whole week! I always loved my mums food although with time my taste for food changed.
One of my favourite dish was the famous Hungarian Goulash. We usually have it with home made bread, spring onions and creme fraiche on the side. This time we had far too much bread left over so it dried.
I was about to bin the dry bread when my mum said I should make french toast with it!
Home Made French Toast
Ingredients:
- Sliced left over bread (ideally sour dough bread)
- 3-4 Eggs (depending how much bread you've got)
- Parmesan cheese
- Whole milk
- Sunflower oil
- Seasalt
- Cup of tea
Instructions:
Mix in a bowl, the eggs, 2 dashes of milk and 1 tbsp grated parmesan cheese for each egg. Place about as much oil in a pan to cover 1/2 of the bread (roughly 1/2 inch), let it warm on low. To check if the oil is warm enough, let a drop of the egg mixture in the oil, if it reaches the top bubbling then it should be ready. Dampen the dry bread slices in the bowl making sure to cover evenly, then place them in the oil.
Check every minute to see if it's golden, than you can flip it.
Place the french toast slices on a plate with paper tissues to suck up the oil.
When ready grind some sea-salt to taste, but I heard some people sprinkling sugar... up to you really.
Goes well with peppermint tea and honey. Num num num 😁
I would be happy to see someone actually use this recipe, if you do, please leave a photo in the comments 😊.
French toast... gotta love them. Mine always have it with coffee. I've never made them with cheese thou. Thanks for sharing @unknovvn
