A simple way to turn a door into a table.

Painting and sanding is good therapy. The repetitive physical actions give my brain a time to relax. I can have the most excellent thoughts and ideas come to me while I am painting a door.

Long tables made using old doors are an item I make in the shop. It was was not an intentional product line. When I first opened my shop, I made up two door tables for my textile studio workspace. They are excellent work tables, solid and forgiving of mess. Ever since I started using them, customers have been asking me if I will make them a door table too.

So on the side, occasionally I hunt down old doors and with just a few simple steps turn it into a table.

I am not skilled in carpentry and other than being awesome on the sewing machine, I can not even cut wood straight. can however use an electric drill (just).

The Simple Steps

Once I have found my door, I paint, sand and sometime paint and sand again to get a nice rustic distressed vibe to the door. Then on the underside, I screw on a set of table legs from Ikea. You can buy table legs individually at Ikea. It is a super simple way to make these and wonderfully efficient.

I don't look at old doors the same way now. Every time I come across a beautiful one, I can't help but wonder what sort of a table it would make.

Until next time,

xx Isabella

I've always wanted a door table- I have nowhere to put it, but they do look fab!

Thanks. Yes you realise how big a door really is when it is laying flat as a table.

Haha, that looks so cool!

Good job and it looks very easy :)

I want to try this someday - Thanks

I'll try to do it!

How do you set plates on it ? Do you then fill in the holes of the door ? Or do you cover it with like sheet of glass or plastic!? It looks really cool ! And is a great idea! Thanks for the tip to buy legs at ikea! 👍🎄

I use mine in my textile studio so the recessed details work well. But for the custom orders, people usually put a sheet of glass or perspex over the top or find a flat door.

Yes thats what I figured ! Its a great idea , even for use outside for large family BBQs! Or gatherings ! If you live in the country theres always old vintage doors to be found ! Thanks and steem on ! 👍😉🎄

Great idea! Also thanks for the ikea legs tip
