The monopoly of reason

in reflexions •  8 years ago

In the realm of natural sciences is more easy to prove that something is right or wrong, because of the objectivity of this kind of science, in the other hand in the realm of human sciences there is more subjectivity, prove a point sometimes require replicate a study in different cultures and countries, is not like the law of gravity. But no matter what you study you will always face the temptation to think that you have the monopoly of the truth.
The believe that we are right and everybody else is wrong is often cause by ignorance, proud or ideology, and any of these things cannot lead to good science. The believe in the monopoly of truth is a danger believe, it leads to a bias view of the world and a very unproductive dialogue with persons of different believes, is an anti science believe.
To sum up the point I want to make here is that one interesting way of approach any problem is to start assuming that you are wrong stead of assuming that you can only be right.

You misunderstand the scientific method or at least you sound like you do.
No one can ever prove a theory right. All that can be done is to prove it wrong.
That's called "falsifying the theory" A theory is ONLY a theory if it CAN be falsified. Everything else is fantasy.

The point I was trying to make is that in order to make is that people should avoid based their believes in ideologies and challenge them selves with different points of view, but I must admit that my text sound confusing. Thank you for your feed back.
