2020: It's Time For a New Viewing Lens on ReggaeSteem

The feed has been looking really good lately, so we commend all ReggaeSteemians for their valiant efforts. It should feel good to be a part of this tribe, which is something much, much greater. There is nothing that can't be shared so long it pertains to Jamaican, Caribbean, and the culture thereof. That means anything that fits under this vastly diverse umbrella is freely able to be shared and expressed - music, food, fashion, art, news, current events, statistics, education, sports, you name it.

There are exceptions; however, and any negative content toward the like will not be tolerated. There really has not been any content like this, so continue to add value to the ecosystem and we shall all be rewarded. 2020 should be a really great year for all of us that continue our wonderful times here on ReggaeSteem.

One thing we are beginning to see more and more of is current statistics regarding tourism brought to the feed by @crypticat which has actually sparked some more serious discussion from another amazing ReggaeSteemian, @shanibeer. This is the type of content and engagement that will propel ReggaeSteem to the next level and also help us to better understand target audiences when it comes to tourists venturing to the Caribbean region.

So, expand your viewing lens and begin to experiment with new types of content that you have not dabbled in before. Use the internet to your advantage to research things that are unique and that can be shared on the feed others have not already. @doitvoluntarily does a great job with this, finding current Caribbean happenings, researching them more in-depth, and then sharing them with us here on Reggaesteem.io. Or, there's content like @luca1777 has recently shared, highlighting his own experiences from our very own 7-mile beach in Negril, Jamaica.

That is exactly what I am going to do more of while still continuing to share with you my personal experiences from my times to Jamaica, music groups that have not yet been featured, and also shilling the crap out of ReggaeSteem and JAHM.

Reggae Founding Fathers to be in Featured Film, (2021)

Reggae is a very diverse music genre. It has many sub genres that have birthed over the years since reggae's origination, two of them being: Ska and Rocksteady. There have been new and old manifested from these sub genres alone, diversifying reggae more and more throughout the years. A recent news article from The Caribbean Life News Journal, announced the rebirth of these specific sub genres through an expected TV documentary set to release some time in 2021.

The documentary is said to explore the origins and evolution of Reggae more in-depth, and will also be filmed at select locations throughout the island, of which will have to be found out at a later date.

That means you will have to watch the documentary when it's released in 2021 ;)

Interviews have already been planned with legends from the Ska and Rocksteady era as part of the one-hour production. The plans of currently rekindling the fire for SKA and Rocksteady are set in the crosshairs, and if all goes as planned, the documentary will roll out on a global scale. This will help share and spread the upbringings of reggae from the perspective of the real time legends that started these movements back in the 50s which has spanned through time until current day. Here are a few quotes from Executive Producer, Marcia Deans:

“The Caribbean people need to know the actual artistes who started it. We are going down memory lane."

“We are going to interview them. We are going to go where the music was where they started the music.”

-Exec. Producer, Marica Deans

This film will be a good way to tell the real story and origins of how reggae music was created, how it evolved, and how it has helped shape the way new up and coming artists have come about from the perspectives of old time living legends. I'm definitely going to keep this one on my radar to see how it progresses and will be on the look out for the release date. I will share this will you all when I know more details.

Great summary post, good to have all these things brought together (also very interesting to hear about the documentary, I'll look forward to that).
This reflects the new curation approach I'm working on for @shanibeer and @shani.jahming and which I'll be writing about in the next week or two. Reggaesteem is maturing and I'll be looking to support the following types of post:

  • more in-depth analyses and critiques for tourism and music.
  • people in music or tourism where they're giving insights into what they do.
  • writing, literature, poetry, film, theatre and arts.
  • personal insights, stories, reflections and experiences.

I'm moving away from:

  • general music posts reviewing or presenting songs or artists and
  • posts that are primarily based on internet research unless it includes analysis and/or personal opinion or other input from the writer.
  • people talking about powering up except for the monthly JPUD initiative, or banging on about the JAHM price unless its part of a wider critique/examination of Reggaesteem business development.

These are just my personal preferences - what I'm interested in spending my time reading about and engaging with - and they will change again as Reggaesteem continues to grow and evolve.

Look forward to you bringing this to the feed, and always love hearing from you personally. You're exactly right about this change in curation. The moderation of content, moving forward, will be changed, but only to improve the entire ecosystem as a whole. There should be some guidelines rolling out, but this is some great verbiage to add to the upcoming guidelines which are still pending and TBA.

I, along with RS, thank you for your awesome, awesome, awesome participation through curation, engagement, and thoughtful commitment to bettering the tribe.

The JAHM OG you are !

hehe, thank you :)
I'm preparing a couple of other posts first which build on the tourism stuff, because they set the context and raise the question for the curation, which (for me) is: who are we writing for? who do we want to attract?
@crypticat got me going hehe :)~

Right on shani! We definitely need to take a step back and fully understand that our target audience should be those that are or will potentially travel to the Caribbean. That’s the point of a stake and stay, but reggaesteem goes beyond just the SNS offerings. Look forward to seeing your thoughts and ideas brought to light on the feed !

Respect Conrad!
We don't like Reggae, we love it! :)
Yesir!

Going out of the comfort zone...

That's good, I'll take it as a challenge, see what I can come up with trying to post about some topic I've never written about...

All right this 'conradsuperb

A documentary or film about the legends of reggae and all that they have contributed will surely serve to catapult this genre, and consequently will also help reggaesteem

You’re already doing your thing man, but we can all take a step from our comfort zone and see what new we can potentially bring. It will only benefit us all moving forward

There’s limitless options a side from just music and reviews. I’d like to see some of our quality posters step it up and go outside their comfort zones a ways. It’s 2020 and that means new new new. Let’s see how interesting our best JAHMers can make things moving forward. The expectations are rising and jahm.whitelist is on to this as well. Don’t get complacent
