You already know that setting a healthy example for your kids is a great way to maintain a healthy relationship. The next step, however, is to ensure that your kids see you treating yourself with the same kindness and compassion that you would treat their dad. That means putting yourself first at least a little bit — every day, even if it's only for a few minutes.
But that doesn't mean that you need to go crazy and pay for fancy manicures or spend a ton of time getting your hair and makeup done. That's a surefire way to actually make yourself less attractive to others. Instead, here are a few ways to take some care of yourself without scaring your kids to death.
1. Take a Walk
It's hard to feel good about yourself when you're cooped up in your house with nothing to do. You might not think of it as exercise, but a little walk can do wonders for your mind and your body. Even a brief stroll around the block or even across the street will make you feel a lot better, even if you were just bored at home.
2. Set Time Alone
Taking some time to yourself is a surefire way to increase your self-confidence and make you feel better about who you are. Taking a bubble bath, grabbing a coffee, or watching a funny movie are all great ways to rejuvenate your mind and your spirit. Put on some your favorite music, light a candle, and enjoy the silence. Your kids will love coming home to a sparkling house, too!
3. Try A New Style
Who knew that simply getting your hair and makeup done could be so incredibly empowering? It's easier than ever to take care of your appearance, and that means that you can take control of your style too. Pick something that makes you feel happy or pretty, and get out there and show it off.
4. Do Something New
Sometimes you just need to shake things up a little and try something new. Try some kind of sport, like kickball or dodge ball, or a dance class. Go to a party, but see if you can just dance or take a leisurely walk instead of going out to the bars or a nightclub. A change is as good as a rest — right?
5. See a New Play
Often we get so caught up in our own lives and routines that we forget that there is always time to get out and have fun. Some moms like to schedule an outing each week with just their kids to something they both enjoy, but even if you only do one play a year, it's a great way to make some new memories.
