I find it very interesting that there is such misconception about the role of Chaplains...of course, I once had this misconception too.
Here's the reality: the personal beliefs of a chaplain are not relevant to their job. They are trained in all religious practices and in how to provide support to those who are non-religious. When someone's needs call for a clergy of a specific religion, they will work to get them that specific clergy.
I think it is unfortunate that so many people have this misconception of what a chaplain does. I very frequently hear people tell me, "well, I'm x religion so I can't talk to your hospital's chaplain.". Chaplains are great, and they are there to support everyone. I've seen Chaplains support people of many faiths, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu and Atheist.
They know about all the religious traditions and are ready to help everyone depending on their needs.
