You could argue that the church in Laodicea is the American church today.
When Jesus talked to the other churches he started by praising them, then criticizing them then praising them again. He had nothing positive to say about the church at Laodicea. It's likely he'd talk the same way to Joel Osteen's church.

I am from South Africa and don't know Joel's church, but it is very easy when you become very wealthy that you start to rely on yourself and believe that you don't need God, in a way you start thinking that you are God.
