Rely on God: The LORD is constantly watching everyone, and he gives strength to those who faithfully obey him

Asa was a king of Judah, who succeeded his father Abijah on the throne, and was the great-grandson of King Solomon. Asa was a righteous man in the eyes of the Lord and put all his effort into fulfilling the covenant with God by not allowing idolatry in the Kingdom of Judah: "Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God" 2 Chronicles 14:2.
And God generously rewarded Asa, peace is a blessing that God grants to those who live with wisdom: "No one was at war with him during those years, for the LORD gave him rest" 2 Chronicles 14:6.
Asa was an intelligent man who foresaw many problems by fortifying many cities and when his country was invaded by the Cushites, Asa trusted in the Lord, and God gave him the victory.
The life of Asa is a good example of how we should proceed in life as spiritual people, fear God, rely on him, and put all our projects in his hands: "Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you" Psalm 37:5. God blesses with spiritual goods the people who approach him with a good heart.
But many years after having begun the religious reform and having received a favorable prophecy from the Lord through Azariah; Asa forgot about the Lord and trusted in the face of a problem with the King of Israel of diplomacy and it was so that the seer Hanani appeared in court and gave him a prophecy from the Lord:
"Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. The LORD is constantly watching everyone, and he gives strength to those who faithfully obey him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war" 2 Chronicles 16:7-9.
The God of the Old Testament, the God of Israel, is a God who acts in history correcting the errors of men, giving blessings or curses according to the choices the men make. Like this ancient king, we also have to choose.
