How do you do research? Depth first or breadth first? If you've done any academic research, or even just wanted to look deeply into a topic on the web, you grab an article that you want to read and it is full of links and references to other articles. If you take a depth first approach, you finish your first article, select one link and read that one.
Then, you go deeper by selecting a link in your new article to get more information and on and on and on again until you've finished. After that, go back up to the top and explore a new link all the way down again.
If you go breadth first, you select all the links (or at least all of the ones that look interesting) in a given article and read those one at a time before repeating by selecting links in a new article.
So, you're working on some research? How do you proceed? Or, are there other methods for trawling the vast array of human knowledge on any given topic?
