Documentary Research: About WorkSheets

in research •  5 years ago

I must begin by clarifying that this text is based on one that I had previously written in https://metodologiaecs.wordpress.com/2013/04/12/sobre-fichas-de-trabajo/ is a material that I summarized to use it as material of I support my classes, so I thought about translating it and sharing it this way.

On this occasion, the specificity of the files aimed at registering contents will be addressed, both those that are a true copy of what is expressed in the documents, and those that arise or are created by the researcher when submitting what is found in the documents to intellectual processes of interpretation.

Let us initially consider an aspect that is common to all worksheets. The distribution of its constituent elements in three (3) clearly differentiable sections or sets, both for its individual purpose and for its location in the physical support of the file. These are designated:

  • Authorship
  • Thematic
  • Content
Authorship:: Author (Year) Title (this is traditionally completed with the page number, but a modification is introduced to place that data at the end of the content) Thematic: Subject (and sub-theme if necessary) that specifies what the content of the file is about and allows it to be placed within the research work scheme.
Content: Corresponds to what is recorded in the file and that has been considered relevant by the researcher, following the rules of documentary interpretation attached to the analysis of documents, which allow to identify the ideas, examples and other elements present in a text ( using the underline for example), or that allow the brief presentation of the ideas of an author (using the summary), or that evaluate the fulfillment of logical criteria in the production of contents by an author (applying analysis). All this allows us to talk about textual or quotation contents, definitions, summary, analysis, interpretation and mixed contents (where textual and non-textual fragments referring to the same point are linked). At the end of the contents I hope to find the indication of the specific site of the document from which the file starts, in case of a book it would be the page number (and volumes if it is the case), if it is a separate newspaper in bodies it is necessary to indicate page and body, if it is from a source In this place, the start and end minutes of what is recorded should be noted here, in the case of electronic sources what corresponds is the address to locate the document or its URL.

It goes without saying that the separation of the parts of the file by lines is only a resource for illustration, therefore, do not place the separation lines on the actual cards to work.
