Pipe Dream is a puzzle game that originally started life on the Amiga as Pipe Mania. Lucasfilm Games ported Pipe Mania to a variety of platforms, including the NES, and renamed it Pipe Dream. Initially released in 1989, the various ports, including ports to popular 8-bit computers and even an arcade port, ranged from 1989 to 1992.

Game play is pretty straightforward. You must lay randomly presented pipe pieces down ahead of the flowing sewage. The pipe pieces can be one of a variety of shapes. You must lay the pipe from the starting point to the end point before the flooz catches up. In addition to the time limit, levels also have a minimum pipe length to add a little more challenge.

For those that like puzzle/strategy games of this type, this is an excellent one to play. Versions exist for the NES, Commodore 64, Apple II, Amiga, Atari ST, Apple IIGS, Macintosh, Game Boy, DOS and a variety of other systems. Pretty much every version makes for a great game so pick your favorite system (or emulator) to play.

There have also been a virtually endless number of clones of Pipe Dream. In addition, there have been a few sequels and remakes including a 3D version titled Pipe Dreams 3D for the PlayStation and a remake of Pipe Mania in 2008 for Windows, the PS2, Nintendo DS and PSP.
