Pretty sure I've not played the PC version. But I would have preferred the console version, joypad over keyboard & mouse every time.

Well, there's nothing stopping you from using a controller on the PC but it's funny you say that. Back when Doom and Doom II were the big games there were those that preferred a controller, those that preferred the keyboard (like me) and those that preferred a mouse/keyboard combination. When it came to deathmatch, those that were proficient with the keyboard/mouse combination were the best.
I'm not sure about Wolfenstein 3D, but when it came to Doom, the PC version was far superior to the first console versions. Much smoother framerates...

I actually think Wolfenstein was more fun as a single player game. But nothing beats a good Doom or Doom II deathmatch :)
