Splatterhouse was a horror themed side scrolling beat-em-up arcade game released by Namco in 1989. It (and a number of sequels and remakes) were ultimately released on various home consoles. The original home version of Splatterhouse released in 1990 on the TurboGrafx-16. This was the only home version available in North America though a sequel would be released on the Sega Genesis and the original would be re-released on iOS and through the Wii Virtual Console.

Splatterhouse was notable for its gore and disturbing enemies. It also contained some familiar themes from various 1980s horror movies (Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, etc). The U.S. home release was toned down slightly but it was still probably the goriest game you could find at that time. This game also got pretty good reviews and is definitely a game you should have if you own a TurboGrafx-16.
