ColecoVision Super Game Module: Not quite vaporware.

In the early 1980s, Coleco was set up take over the video game world with their ColecoVision game console. In my opinion, what set Coleco apart from Atari & Intellivision were their hardware accessories (and of course the ColecoVision's graphic capabilities). Many companies talked about things they were going to do, but Coleco delivered. The Expansion Module 1 allowed the gamer to play Atari 2600 games on the console. Whoa! Expansion Module 2 was a steering wheel and foot pedal to have a more realistic feel when playing racing games. They also made a "Super Action Controller" for sports games. That one... that one was... eh. Even so, they were trying. They also made a roller ball controller for games like Slither and Centipede. It's pretty sweet.

The thing retro gamers always go back to is the ill-fated Expansion Module 3 which originally was supposed to be the Super Game Module. Module 3 eventually became the ADAM computer, but let's get back to the SGM. This thing was going to use wafer tapes and give us the closet arcade experience from the comfort of your home.
