I hadn't heard of Icke before, but I now listened to a video by him about Google and Facebook. I think conspiracy theorists are people who try to apply a meaningful pattern or narrative to things that happen, they assume that there is an intention or plan behind it all. That assumption in itself (whether it is well founded or not) can expand your understanding, make you see interesting connections between things, regardless of whether there is a conscious plan there or not.
