Greetings, dear readers!
The premiere of the series "Fire and sword", created by Polish filmmakers in the genre of historical drama, melodrama and military adventures, took place on February 8, 1999. It can also be found on the Internet on sites that provide online movie viewing services.
I have always liked works on historical themes. During my life, I read a lot of historical stories and novels, watched a lot of films, both fiction and documentary.
But for some reason, I watched this wonderful series based on the novel of the same name by Henri Senkevich "Fire and sword" only today.
The series struck me with its scale, historical authenticity of the image of the events that took place at the end of the first half of the 17th century, related to the liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people under the leadership of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
According to the script of the film, Khmelnytsky, having concluded an Alliance with the Tatars, led the Cossack army to Poland. Although, of course, due to the fact that the film was shot by Polish filmmakers, the liberation struggle of Ukrainians is presented here as a regular riot.
Against the background of a rather bloody and large-scale massacre, the glow and smoke of fires, truly brutal showdowns and the destruction of civilians in rebellious villages, the love of the Polish nobleman Jan Skshetuski for the young Polish Princess Elena, for whom the Cossack Colonel Yuri Bogun feels no less ardent love, blooms like a bright flower. Throughout the series, these two stories - about the struggle for independence and the struggle for love-pass before us, intricately intertwining with each other.
The main epic battles unfolded here under the Yellow Waters and in the battle of Zbarazh, the rest resembles a guerrilla war. But everything is captured and shown on the screen very impressively-both colorful and ominous at the same time.
Great actors played, especially were good Michal Zhebrovsky in the role of Skshetuski, Alexander Domogarov in the role of the snide and devilishly cunning ataman Bogun, able to get away with any situation. Christopher Kowalski looks great in the role of Jan Zagloba, a funny fat man devoted to his friends, and Andrey Severin did a good job with the role of Vishnevetsky, as well as the unsurpassed and talented actor Bogdan Stupka, who starred as Bogdan Khmelnitsky. Not bad was the charming Isabella Skorupko, who starred as the Princess, and many other actors.
This series, consisting of 4 episodes, each lasting 50 minutes, I can recommend to all fans of historical films, and although it is not quite adhered to the historical reality, but the General impression of what was happening at that time on the territory of Ukraine and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the role of Russia in ending the carnage, you can get.
In addition, this is a perfectly filmed series, the only thing is that it is better not to watch the faint-hearted and overly impressionable - there are too many scenes of cruelty, scenes that resemble the atrocities of the same Nazis and punishers.
Pleasant to you of viewing!
Thank you for your attention, see you soon!
With respect to you, @mrfantastis.
