Review of Frozen 2

I've really been hankering to watch Frozen II, and finally got the chance this weekend. Yay!

The story begins by telling us what is apparently a true story, narrated by Anna & Elsa's father, the king, when they were quite young. This flashback ends with their mother singing the song of Ahtohallan, a mysterious place that is poorly defined by the song. We find ourselves in Arendelle, where Queen Elsa is being called by a mysterious spirit that needs to be freed and, despite misgivings, she does. Then, she and Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven set off to figure out together how to get rid of the mist that shrouds a nearby forest and acts as a physical barrier, too. They meet mysterious spirits of fire, water and air beyond the barrier, as well as unexpected humans, and must surmount further challenges in their quest to get rid of the mist.
Later still, sacrifices must be made and it looks like Arendelle will have to be destroyed to complete their quest. I won't give any more away than that, for those who haven't seen it!

Honestly, I'm not sure if it was because I was distracted or because of the film, but I really didn't connect with the film until the last third of it, which I thought was fantastically done and showed some great morals, like self-sacrifice, deciding for the greater good, righting a wrong, creative problem-solving and using one's power for good. There are also several fun scenes in it involving Olaf, and he even gets his own solo(ish) scene!

The film may make your kids cry but don't worry - it's not as bad as it seems!

I can safely recommend this film for most audiences.
