Wisdom quote: Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Proverbs 23:4

The book of proverbs explains that the insistent search for the apparent goods, moved by greed or avarice, can lead us down into the wrong path: "Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness." Proverbs 23:4.
Greed and avarice are considered deadly sins, so much so, that there is a commandment, written in the old covenant, about this: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." Exodus 20:17.
The love of money is a path that will never satisfy us: "Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless," Ecclesiastes 5:10.
Wisdom explains that wealth is not an end in itself, but a result of the correct decisions in life. There is a well-founded wealth and another that is not: "Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.", Proverbs 13:11.
That is why the Bible tells us about being rich towards God, being rich in Mercy (compassion, gentleness), being rich in Perseverance, in Piety: "Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great wealth with turmoil", Proverbs 15:16.
When we are rich toward God contentment replaces greed and fear as motivators of conscience, contentment is a mixture of joy with happiness that comes from virtuous life: "Happiness is the reward of virtue", Aristotle.
Contentment is essential for a happy and harmonious life: "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment", 1 Timothy 6:17.
We choose between God and money.
