For me planning worked. I did not make it overnight. I created a plan on what I want to do and where I want to be in 10 years and followed it. Ofcourse there were some deviations along the years but the goal remained the same. It took me 12 years but I made it.

To give you a generic answer, make a detailed plan on what you want and then hustle all your way to the goal. It is not easy when you are not born with a silver spoon but it is doable.

Yeah? For real? 12 years?! OMG, that's a lot. I mean, what was in this plan what took you 12 years to achieve? Look like something grand. You created the plan in one day, or throughout the years you were adding corrections?

I started with my financial goals then used it as my base to create career goals and learning goals. Left the job in 3 years then started my company according to my plan. The advantage I had was that since I knew how much I wanted in 10 years I also created an investment strategy for myself with a risk factor that I was comfortable with. Sold my company after 4 years and then invested the money from selling my company to portfolio (Mix of stocks, bonds, mutual funds and crypto). This is what allowed me to reach my goals.

If i was focused only on a certain aspect like my company then I am not sure if I would have reached my goals in 12 years. Also, it all depends if you want to stop when you reach your goal or want to update/extend your goal when you are about to reach your goal.

Took me 2.5 months to come up with a plan. The plans changed during the years but the Goals remained the same.
