Lucky fans were treated to a surprise performance by Rick Astley and the Foo Fighters at a festival in Tokyo on Sunday.
The eighties pop legend, who was also on the line-up, joined the band for a very special live rock version of his anthemic hit Never Gonna Give you up as the band headlined the Summersonic Festival in Japan.
Frontman Dave Grohl announced to the audience that he’d just met the singer ‘two minutes ago’ before inviting him on stage to rapturous applause.
“Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome our new best friend, Rick Astley,” frontman Grohl said. “This is f**king crazy. I just met him two minutes ago.”
And potty-mouthed Rick garnered even more cheers after ad libbing the line "I’m feeling f****** marvellous!" during the performance, reports the MEN.
Despite never having met before their impromptu duet, the two acts do share something of a history.
Lancashire-born Rick, 51, who is due to perform at the We Are Manchester benefit concert at the Arena next month, has in the past shared a video of himself covering the Foo Fighters’ hit Everlong.
And two years ago, the band drove past a demonstration by the controversial Westboro Baptist Church, whilst blaring out a recording of Never Gonna Give You Up on a loudspeaker.
The stunt was a real live version of a popular internet phenomena of the time called RickRolling, which saw internet users baited into clicking on a link they believed to be something else, only to be greeted with a recording of the catchy pop track.
