Ripple Up 300% this Week - Questions About Distribution and Coin Production
It seems many people have hopped on board the Ripple train as it jumped another 300% this week. Ripple moves to the #2 market cap after overtaking Ethereum for that spot. Ripple surprises me because the whole purpose of cryptocurrency to me has been the vision of a bank free world and a redistribution of wealth. I understand that it will continue to grow as more and more banks join the Ripple train. Now for my question:
How are Ripple's coins created? There is no mining or even staking to my knowledge and there is already 37 BILLION coins on the market. Did the company just create these from thin air and then sell them to the market? I am still new to cryptocurrency and am just trying to understand how a company can fairly distribute a currency without mining or staking.
"To this end, we currently plan to distribute XRP primarily through business development deals, incentives to liquidity providers who offer tighter spreads for payments, and selling XRP to institutional buyers interested in investing in XRP. If market conditions permit, we expect our company to hold approximately 50 billion XRP by the end of 2021. This schedule is indicative and discretionary."
Currently from what I understand Ripple the company owns over 60% of the XRP, and plans to own half of them until 2021. It seems their distribution is completely up to them with little say from the community. Why are people backing this when they freak the hell out over a 10% instamine or premine?

Curious myself. I keep hearing about it and having friends tell me about it. I just know what you told me already about it so I'm weary.

Awesome. I would love to hear an explanation that would give me some confidence in them because I just can't invest in it with my current understanding. I'm already subscribed to your youtube channel, so I will keep an eye out.
