On April 25, 2018, RippleNami’s East African Development Director, Joyce Jerotich Yegon, spoke at the School of Business and African Women Studies at the University of Nairobi. The event was hosted by professor Bitange Ndemo.

Jerotich, an advocate for digital Livestock Supply Chain Management Solution, spoke to members of the Women Entrepreneurs Training and Incubation Program where she discussed the problems facing women farmers and how RippleNami can transform these problems into long-term sources of profit and improved standards of living.

RippleNami provides a blockchain-powered data visualisation and mapping platform that collects big data and makes it easily accessible to anyone in the world.

In the past, women farmers have faced a wide range of challenges that arise from market pricing indicators, inaccessible capital resources to finance and expand operations, and lack of land ownership documents.

According to a company press release, RippleNami’s technology enables small-scale women farmers to create partnerships, cooperatives, associations, and enterprises that increase their buying power while allowing them to acquire more land or cultivate their own land pieces more profitably.

Women farmers can be trained on irrigation techniques, fertiliser, herbicide, and pesticide applications, weed identification, farming technologies, protection options, marketing food produce, crop insurance, and bookkeeping. As a result, these farmers can enjoy improved crop quality, increased crop volume, and receive contracts from buyers.

By mapping all women farmers and their buyers such as supermarkets, schools, processors, hospitals, and prisons, these women are able to strategically sell their produce to geographically preferable buyers at a reasonable price.

Women farmers in Kenya will be able to enjoy increased crop volumes, improved livelihoods, and contribute to the country’s economy by controlling their crops, land, and supply chain thanks to RippleNami’s platform.
